CALGARY -- Liquor merchants are applauding a move by the Alberta government to restrict a price increase proposed by the province's alcohol distributor.

( H! P$ C% b- J) x, F0 X. JThe industry had a difficult year in 2006 when Connects Logistics chronically failed to deliver shipments because of what the distributor said was a labour shortage.

That's one of the reasons the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission forced the supplier to roll back its proposed increases, said spokeswoman Marilyn Carlyle-Helms.

( y! ]$ m6 a& m7 e$ C1 f) gThe increases approved by the liquor commission would see merchants pay, on average, an extra 10 cents for a 750-millilitre bottle of wine or spirits, 40 cents for a dozen imported bottled beer and 25 cents per dozen of imported canned beer.
