　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

- C/ i+ K) O( h( X　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

　　One single white immensity.

* r# }, M" I% E9 ?$ E　　The Yellow River"s swift current

. k$ ?3 d2 S/ q/ ]0 I6 o　　Is stilled from end to end.

2 ]: h  W1 |; r( B　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
9 M4 G4 f0 y6 O* o5 ~& S
　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

! {* M# M' P, |9 X. G　　On a fine day, the land,

　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

7 s0 ]! I5 F& Z: ?4 V0 Y　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu
! V  n( Z* V% c% D6 X3 m. a
+ `- J2 K# L' Y# m+ N0 z5 ^　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

9 ~6 }1 r" M3 k5 @6 E. j　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men
/ a$ p$ z- C- h: d9 F5 r" ~
　　Look to this age alone.
