His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. * \- B* q m% U* V
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, ) }8 P- _9 b& i+ A2 E, h1 @
he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. % k, E% o) n& s, C3 A2 p
( U2 X \9 x6 C( W* lAs he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual 9 X1 H8 ]8 \# k7 k
description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been 0 Q% h8 D0 [* S K" U, n

"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having 5 ~8 y. o) b( S; R2 R6 @
just been presented with a new puppy.

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my 7 L- b4 J5 ~2 R# a: b
room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how - o0 i+ C% v. u0 v! e* F
I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it."

It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. {5 S! y% P3 c0 T' B
& _" o7 E/ {6 ^9 X$ M8 pI have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I
# K( E9 m# G2 o+ d! Z/ thave with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed

; p, O( [1 @/ W' ~4 a; TEach day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new

Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.

( m! B3 B6 g% W. uSo, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank
