His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. 4 p# ]6 x6 s9 b, K
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, 2 U) Y- J: E8 g8 z0 W
he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. 6 s w5 d1 H- U% T5 }( c

As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual
8 V* Q# ^( [8 b% K' S% ]% J& _; Ddescription of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been * W/ {- |$ k" f0 L: g

+ O% o6 z; B$ M m"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my

It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. 5 e# G5 K; A$ j" A6 k

I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I
7 j8 C v! {/ i; A7 Khave with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed 4 |' F$ w7 f7 y( u8 ^
and be thankful for the ones that do. 3 y* o8 m* R7 x

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new
: d; d8 Y! r3 B$ m8 Cday and all the happy memories I've stored away. 3 k, n/ p( P( d: A3 {5 k2 B/ I& s

& H$ q, l0 T0 p) x" |% j8 ]Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.

So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank , o; C, z3 J6 R' D p$ m
