Basic and Additional Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG)

Your child could receive up to $7,200 from the Government of Canada to help pay for his or her education after high school.
, T7 X4 v5 I. U" s' W* \9 J3 R1 c' B) p" O- U7 L$ {* I e
The Canada Education Savings Grant is money the government adds to your child's Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) to help their savings grow. After high school, your child can withdraw the money to help pay for either full-time or part-time studies:
3 m5 u, ^ M8 E% w# l) a" {+ Iin an apprenticeship program;& Z( L! M1 ~$ `& n# R& p
at a CEGEP;2 }4 t8 A/ }- P8 l7 C2 c
at a trade school;
- T# Z& F- @0 D9 X4 ^/ D; Y, kat a college; or8 y$ e( w0 _3 h# i- s
at a university.5 d$ g6 \0 Y* \$ ]2 |2 O
% P& x( C0 F+ y# h2 Q+ D2 m% FTo receive the Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG), a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) must have been opened for the child. (Anyone can put money into an RESP for any child; you do not have to be the child's parent.), X7 G( q$ M. r+ P2 f0 N

The basic CESG provides 20 cents on every dollar you contribute, up to a maximum of $500 on an annual contribution of $2,500. If you cannot make a contribution in any given year, you may be able to catch up in future years. & ]: z2 _) }; K8 A9 R
' `$ e) L6 M3 \# mThis grant is available up until the end of the calendar year in which the child turns 17.
& N5 J1 M8 U: o& ^; Y* m
4 ~( U% Y9 s; I" K4 U& qDepending on the child's primary caregiver's net family income, he or she may also be eligible to receive the Additional Canada Education Savings Grant (A-CESG). This grant adds an additional 10% or 20% onto the first $500 put into the RESP.

2 Y" @! a# Z: R ]$ Dextra 20% on the first $500, if the child's family has qualifying net income for the year of $ 43,953 or less; and
+ X0 W, g$ x# i5 _9 t/ ]extra 10% on the first $500, if the child's family has qualifying net income for the year that is more than $ 43,953 but is less than $ 87,907.
