The Engineer Bridging Program is exclusively focused on internationally trained Engineers who are currently experiencing difficulties re-entering their profession in Edmonton.  This program will increase language levels to CLB 7, provide TOEFL iBT curriculum, technical skills upgrading, communication skills, cultural training, preparation for APEGGA licensure and 20 weeks of internship with an Engineering firm.  Situated at Capital Place in downtown Edmonton, the program is easily accessible through public transit and centrally located in a professional environment.

I heard that around five months in total, including two to three months study in school.
# p; a# H4 f, d
I also heard that the school will help you yo contact companies for the co-op opportunity. It is also possible that students may get hired directly without co-op.It depends.

Please pay attention to the last section: SECTION FIVE  which I mentioned above, the CO-OP opportunity. That means the students may get the opportunities working in engineering companies, getting working experience, and if you are strong enough and lucky, may get hired eventually which is a high opportunity as per 9 of 12 employment rate from last study year.

The program is 38 weeks in length including classroom theory, computerized training, ESL training, TOEFL iBT preparation, role playing exercises, skill upgrading, internship, case management and follow up support.  The program schedule includes interactive and intensive training in five core areas of competency:

Section One: Communication (180 hours)

9 Q3 Q6 M/ J2 X" E; g* f·         Intensive, small workgroup development of professional and personal communication skills to ensure individuals a smooth and professional transition from international worksites to the Canadian labour market.

·         This session answers the question: Why do Canadians do that?  Learn of the innuendos, inferences and behaviours of the local community as they pertain to contract negotiation, client liaison and conflict resolution.



Section Three: Engineer Skill Enhancement (240 hours)

4 o9 ]* }4 ]9 a" @4 K% d8 q$ g·         Transfer current engineering skills to the software and technology requirements currently demanded by industry leaders; includes exposure and practice of relevant and necessary skills for the engineering field.

First good news from this program:

After starting in Jan. 2007, there was the first student out of overall twelve students getting hired in industry as an engineer recently from the still on going ENGINEER BRIDGING PROGRAM. He is a Chinese.

Another news about this program:
( o: r! V6 ]  t4 \( v9 ~( [This school organized students to take part in a job fare in Jan. 2007 which was established by U of A. During job fare, students had the chances meeting companies face to face who were looking for professional employees.
