Alberta College is governed by an independent Board of Governors

1903, Alberta College predates both the City of Edmonton and the 5 Y/ B1 }2 c3 c! A1 o9 K. e1 ]
Province of Alberta. It was founded by concerned citizens as the
& S9 ^* b% v! o8 k4 Dfirst post-secondary school in the area, on land bequeathed by ( i7 J# N$ f0 t5 _/ I J. d, [) ~
pioneer George McDougall for educational purposes. The College & @* W k2 p2 I1 ]5 w9 k/ E
initially had three departments: academics, commerce and music, 8 o6 F# Y7 t8 [3 F+ f
and its main purpose was to prepare young students for 6 c& d% J7 V: r/ J$ j; E2 v" E7 a
university
