Alberta College is governed by an independent Board of Governors - g& B& _5 ^7 @3 c1 O
drawn from a wide cross-section of the community. Established in l9 q7 O3 Z7 x. S2 P( x0 D) c
1903, Alberta College predates both the City of Edmonton and the
+ s) i; W1 X) k+ G( bProvince of Alberta. It was founded by concerned citizens as the . z/ p$ M8 l; r' N: M. z* s. `; ^
first post-secondary school in the area, on land bequeathed by % L7 e, V8 L0 M! I2 c' b7 c
pioneer George McDougall for educational purposes. The College 2 C, P5 w- Z; m( e' u6 s0 i( \
initially had three departments: academics, commerce and music, 3 N4 P- B8 ~6 W8 \
and its main purpose was to prepare young students for
