Todd Bertuzzi is in New York today to see if he can resume his NHL career. The Vancouver Canucks player will appear before NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. More than thirteen months ago Bertuzzi attacked Colorado Steve Moore from behind leaving Moore seriously injured. Today, Burtuzzi will ask to be reinstated after sitting out nineteen games of his indefinites suspension. Steve Moore will also appear before the NHL commissioner today but probably not at the same time as Bertuzzi. As Jimmy Strashen (name) reports, in many hockey circles it is Burtuzzi who is viewed as a victim. ( ^# ]: g6 N5 S" h, p. i3 r( x

“ Watching a hockey game, watching the sports and event and, you know, the usual perspective is I get to be out there on the plain field or plain ice, doing what I love to do and it is kind of hits you but wait a second. You know … you may… you may not able to do that again.”
- C7 W, Y9 Q6 CDespite this Moore appears to have few allies among former players. It seems he violated the hockey code by pushing for criminal charges in what some perceived as the tit for tat attack. When he filed a civil suit in February Canucks’ captain M N called him a journeyman looking for a pay day. Doctor Pet Bishop is a hockey safety expert.6 r* P/ u. X, `; K d
“When a player comcunits(?) play the game... and it’s not a God given right to play and it’s a privilege to be able to play at all level.” Bertuzzi, the message will be sent that what he did really wasn’t that bad. Jimmy St, CBC news, Toronto. |
