The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers

the test may be stopped.

· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.
/ ~7 ?/ I5 Q7 w! c· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training! @/ ]' q3 w5 T* q& i" e
and Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road6 E2 r+ e2 I' t) y+ d% k* j
tests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the

6 z" p; I& n$ n; g: M N, u! s& MWhat do I bring for my road test?

9 i/ H5 P) s2 E- e# ]· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)
7 z- O5 P% I2 F4 m2 m! q+ N/ xthen you must also provide acceptable photo ID.0 ?! Y* ~+ }" j X
· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the) s4 M% G5 f: X* S6 t
weather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).+ v: }% i% M+ u1 L7 o
· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid9 t$ v! I( _9 L1 f" M; `
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.3 V# V- G2 d* c! o# `- M- d
· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.6 H: V7 ~3 `* [- m1 d( e

The Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to0 @( \0 A# M: K
assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and
6 R8 W8 K G( vdemonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield# K* U: x2 ^5 S, [2 _, j6 [/ Y
wipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions) V8 O$ b& ]- \) Y j$ r
that you will be given during the test.

· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.9 Y! q4 e) ~ n% e0 N4 m: ]
· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.
4 {3 D# M S) L1 z" |You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not

· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.) X8 [/ E. z! e( r3 G9 O
· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as" E9 _/ e% J- i2 q- n3 K: R+ o
the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.

What do I do when I pass my road test?0 p& {6 \4 u4 O

The Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the
, W" T0 w1 G+ C! h9 ~6 TTest Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any/ p$ F" z% c. @0 x$ Q) o
Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this5 n& V/ i; b( M' _# g
service.
