EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

; C1 u a$ j8 }8 d/ g8 B( {5 SThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.9 ~, D# x) p, U$ I( ?7 B

Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store. `2 Q1 O0 D# f1 `7 r4 N2 @5 d$ s

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall.". B' o9 x" {5 V
