EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.$ Y8 v% }% k* o
/ ?+ |3 c* e* V- A6 t, b
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.
$ c% R/ `" n, n9 N ]( k2 c9 m+ J' o* x
Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store., |/ g& i7 U4 p+ K2 G6 g2 d b

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
