Newcomers are being offered some help when shopping for a home in Edmonton’s tight housing market. ) J5 e* {( T9 @* o! |. q
Immigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents.

In the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items. % {: |' F8 _ e

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women.

Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society. ; F* w- ^* @, Z6 O6 _: b: o
