Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

* q5 I+ m8 k+ S5 v. }Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
4 |/ ?1 s, N( e9 Y$ VMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
# }8 u8 r2 K9 H, \(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about3 Y7 R7 X b3 i1 ?5 n; V V, X
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
+ Q5 R9 z, p0 `9 i, [management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
$ R1 v7 c7 `0 p1 o- r$ Svermin-composting and residential recycling.1 C, u9 r2 \1 X A7 j6 v: W
+ y" Z; R! C. }* ]" k
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
4 j6 I5 \3 ~; c( x" P7 yto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
8 k1 m: Q4 Q' E( A# p6 P7 Kcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
1 C+ _0 g8 l( f: B9 }& freduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
4 d* p$ ^1 e7 p8 B) presources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
3 _, i4 w' b" P9 I! ?importance of composting and recycling. w4 g* }$ Y6 L: c1 ?/ o
) V- R/ T6 k6 J& j
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
6 C! M, M7 N7 nReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;1 R. P# z! `! h5 K& R9 t3 C
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
& I" n1 O, K& k& M3 u: Wmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at/ P( T6 }9 d5 Y+ E: o4 Z3 E
various demonstration gardens and general public and school) `( a' ^. ^6 j8 N* o+ N" f
presentations.# k, }' \6 E' A+ E8 k
) h9 E! \+ B$ s/ A' d
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
- d3 c0 k4 N+ E2 P4 \volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the2 m5 W3 n/ h5 z( T; ]
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your/ o5 n! \+ ` s i. `
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master& c% |+ ?5 n+ h3 n z! _
