Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the# [( F8 n; w- ~& a* o, q' ]
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule6 x3 F8 L3 [ H: m; P
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about0 ?9 P+ r+ q: _2 z
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste6 N: t9 {2 ~: I" D
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;, {# c S* G: n+ w4 h" ^
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
8 e4 w0 }% a. [7 a* J0 c( M9 v0 h
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
5 ]7 U) |9 n4 l) ]6 E, t: E; u0 ~2 u: Mto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
~( ]/ U( Q* Q& w6 s$ ~8 Vcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
. M1 I! m) }3 p) s/ kreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
. o6 a: @ F3 \! Y2 B. j2 L1 presources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the4 i: U# E( N$ i
importance of composting and recycling.# y/ C% q9 p4 w
6 Q1 c8 L7 z" k: F, YExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
5 h, `" W9 ~: g$ z" T- a( @Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
! e. w! x" d& J; y. n# spublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
( n/ g4 N; M5 u1 |maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
1 ~5 V# R3 X7 X7 I I4 u: ~various demonstration gardens and general public and school% L4 G! O1 a% t8 I+ z0 O9 }# b
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
( e9 v/ k+ r2 b$ Kvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
/ j, I6 K' v# e# ~most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
" w h- O A5 _7 x- n7 r/ o6 }knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master: Q7 c6 U2 w4 E R+ C; {
