Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the) p# m1 X, E( g* }
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
* S# d2 z8 N- E0 _2 m; t9 N4 H(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
1 G% Z' p+ F3 t, t9 ?4 penvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
! }% j5 o, g+ i1 g6 Bmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
' j0 E& w0 ?4 N8 kvermin-composting and residential recycling.& y5 ~" g0 U( l- v6 p+ {
* v, i+ h# k7 y; ]) ^4 K" l0 EThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips- H, F( M( j7 i2 `# `
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
" F8 c- v9 P1 }9 |8 b& ~complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:; F) q1 m8 _; n% q" @
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
( o3 F3 l0 ]( m% d* _resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
, |8 Y5 U5 O0 K$ q1 M, M" |# @" w0 wimportance of composting and recycling.) i6 t) D$ c4 l+ @# s
4 O1 o- v8 Q7 F* j( tExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
. A. m' M9 z; Q: P2 CReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;2 T! H" R Y: f9 m5 h$ p8 F
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
8 n- l1 d( @) ]& v6 C$ Kmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at% J& b4 y) e& m) q1 V
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

2 C5 [, ]4 t5 p8 Q& xThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and) ~/ Z Q6 q" A& V! S
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the$ m* }0 K4 y2 o, J A4 k
