Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

3 g" r7 y, s' m: ^5 lDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the. g8 E) }0 Z" w: A' w. \
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
# A& F5 G4 B* W6 v: P# a(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about9 v8 Z& f6 H9 T/ X
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
6 O7 }$ _) n0 H$ d5 w$ nmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;6 ]6 ]$ K, L9 r7 G( J
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
0 e3 C. n/ w, c! s% p2 J. y& k% Q: K# C4 h! P1 S
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips: {9 m# k- J: B% l$ r- n
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
9 ~5 d" J% {& h# N2 K: Xcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
j# e8 c V3 M4 s! A$ Sreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important3 ^- S3 E, J. w2 v1 n* H
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
6 s! ]5 n: |/ ?/ mimportance of composting and recycling.
; Q0 {; [( V$ Q6 |" V# M" j. y; A4 ~ M* Z) Q
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the. r# v! l# Z% ]& D, q( u7 r
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;& e- K7 ~' z R5 t
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
2 m8 e) j& l) \maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
% j4 D' ~. g" _ N X" rvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school! [. W0 K% n) f( K9 G' }
presentations.& v/ k- @, w* ?0 w9 D9 M, ]
9 R4 A' h$ V% F, _1 m% k, s: D
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and1 I0 M' b1 S% ] ~' T' q @9 b
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
$ E. g. A: J2 J4 |: _/ `most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your9 ~% G+ V/ Q( F" S( u
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master+ h) ?1 a {8 g, U- V l
