Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!0 e/ e6 f( Q$ ~$ z q+ V
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch- _6 _* F$ c1 y" v

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
! Q3 [- N6 ?/ aMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
. _7 I# U' b. e9 ]( D$ ?" U4 ^) N* w+ z: g(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about) f6 q4 r2 e7 \' f' ?& l5 I7 ]9 i( M% T
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
( Y5 {/ N+ M9 M6 h* N* E4 tmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;' C0 v- v) ~7 K# |
vermin-composting and residential recycling.3 l' }5 z6 ^, U$ h
( a; r3 [* Q& k! J( i
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips: }; h- R" f( j9 `3 J
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
& A$ A% E- ]- b1 T: H, [complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:, W; u' k8 ~8 B6 ]6 O8 S* [
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
! @7 \+ ]+ C, m Aresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the9 U- P+ c- p! U$ t5 B, l( E
importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the! |; @0 G$ \' `$ T3 B( b
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;5 e5 J1 m f3 L2 ?
public education display booths; assisting with programs and! D/ T' |3 m" X. c' t+ q* u
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at4 s& x2 z" ?4 \1 p8 H; H0 c% W
various demonstration gardens and general public and school' h, E2 ]& h9 ~3 u6 T, D
presentations., Y! W! e" ?0 T& x
$ K! h; G2 ^' Z1 o
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and, g# i1 J/ _" e4 _
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the$ v9 r+ C9 ]0 B6 N n i0 m
