Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

8 C# g0 _, G/ U/ vDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the# R6 \, M% @2 @" [4 y
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule) H+ N- T% J2 Z8 l8 @
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about* {& D+ X; o( ~- H
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste$ U) F1 i0 R" d) Y( q! _
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
: d, O C% D' m) U: Q- _0 c; fvermin-composting and residential recycling.$ j3 `1 ~; T0 o/ O( X& @8 j
9 D1 `( @* Q1 `1 MThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips+ _# c$ T5 m* Y# Z6 q) E! z! t
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates4 v& R! g8 A3 d$ E3 l! I2 T. |
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
0 d: {" @6 G5 Y, | Q; V4 treduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important. S( m8 ?& f. o( d% ~
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the8 i# h) {8 L) O& _# s4 U
importance of composting and recycling.3 ~5 G& Q5 C" [2 f! w* R
. ^8 H8 T, W# N
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the6 ^' C+ ~7 d3 C/ Q
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
- m) x5 |3 [9 c2 [9 V% I- S4 xpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
! ]. S, n5 n2 ]9 [% \. x* wmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
: x2 `2 L0 I6 T/ v+ x, ?* nvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
8 S( i( J& P; Q: L. K' qpresentations.8 y+ f3 [; \- t% Z$ d, e
9 u( R$ n4 n2 I! xThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and5 @! \4 ~- ^3 R
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the) x# R1 T' J3 U# z" `0 j% ?$ u' s
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your$ ]! p' m1 t" Y7 k! l: C$ r
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
