' u' p. [% H( e* INewcomers are being offered some help when shopping for a home in Edmonton’s tight housing market.
" Y" D4 d/ h2 \8 u: SImmigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents. % r- |% S {5 o6 |( N
# |% V' N$ N' ~3 r3 ]% q, |/ PIn the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items.

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women.

Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
