Duties

* Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
$ M# y% }9 A2 N% g * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
& ~' n. q; |+ K5 V * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
9 T" P9 r F8 ^6 d * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations3 R( f" j* [6 Y
* Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director. M2 T$ Z9 R+ i4 F+ n
* Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses P3 R6 a& h# U7 f7 {
* Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
* Y! C V7 ^1 G, f- r! K) w/ ~ * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
( D6 C" ]- K; z& A9 |' R * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
! \7 f% [9 U8 u, l9 D0 Q * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
& }% d, E! |3 k8 ~8 `( G( F * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs

* Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
. d P9 ]# }" o7 a2 t/ ^ g& x" D * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications* v" o8 A+ O6 O/ u4 T _
' O7 T' r, H" Z * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
" d; w" `5 T$ w+ L6 j; Q f3 Z3 } * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth' _5 r' r1 h3 Q/ R g
* Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies

3 R4 M0 c5 P* ~- g. I+ g * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community

* Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills& p: ?! X2 J; i5 l; k
* Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
