Duties

; Z! v6 _  H' J) t( J    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region' E1 e8 E, y% s- ~5 Y
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group9 c. i" k9 M7 x& d! a
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators0 @) e4 \0 w1 Q
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations2 L; q8 G/ P0 C
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
8 _: ]0 i+ D! m& Y, U5 L2 y    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses+ M. }' O/ e6 R! `0 e1 |2 P% v* B
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth; z) H) k( I, f, @5 o% E
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program( f( K5 _2 W+ m* s' l2 n& v
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment0 ~" g. z3 o# Y' o) v% e
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports4 o. i0 u* |6 r, Z, x
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs( T" c- [  ]5 X
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly- s1 o  Q$ T5 V. L; P0 }$ [
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities! C+ N) Q+ q- t, a! E0 N2 Z
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools, `3 _: D% M* n- }: s, a8 U- \

Qualifications) R8 I+ R* \, a1 [3 g

* Q; w: q+ {9 p3 [1 @    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
) _9 H7 j, W( r5 h" ]5 h    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
" b+ ?/ e8 h+ p    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies9 ]& j/ R: A9 I$ O7 |6 y  K2 Y
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs- H# B5 K" L" B& Y$ o' q) m
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community0 O- F, q8 s; |/ G5 l) O) R( I
    * Fundraising skills an asset$ v" O: b( t; @  V
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills* d" ~) D5 e  i. g$ f- K, u
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills

    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
