EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.& m* ~# W% V2 P2 N5 u( s8 P

The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

3 d8 k- }) h2 A" {! l0 oPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."" b) e T/ o. E. H
