Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

5 N* p1 [6 T/ H1 W6 PDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the$ ?4 `& J- g( q! k
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule% L5 M6 F! h/ o# Z( Q# X3 K4 q" x5 y% p
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about D* a3 N. X i7 Z* F, j. d# b& M
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
0 r- K2 Q; q( J- Z% l: H$ Wmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;5 R2 D3 O5 ?7 a: v
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
4 J3 U8 A- W( R* f1 p8 K7 J0 X6 H) ^
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
h4 T5 i" v4 S. [$ t1 _to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
6 Q; T0 F4 N& h4 C$ B& t* T' Zcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:8 b; w+ h6 W9 p4 j7 n- J" s) r% n
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
& S$ }; R* J& n; v+ sresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
; x: W+ @* q! n6 Aimportance of composting and recycling.

; q; r' Z1 b' c+ V U. AExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the1 g% U+ s# e7 M s. b6 I5 |
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
8 r& x5 G! q6 ]/ C+ C( b& A# hpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
/ P! B6 Y& T- ~* Ymaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at. V9 V% u4 a) W# A( |/ Y4 b& b
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

$ S, _6 Q- T9 [- Z4 W0 nThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
