( R4 h. @$ |( V r- n" i% R1 xDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
& d5 a7 O2 S9 A RMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
1 ^7 R. {% f: D/ a% @(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
% |' `1 }- x' {2 V/ Yenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste" H& S2 v/ m1 ~* P* T8 y* ~0 E* ?# t
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;+ c& O8 Y6 L0 F3 B7 o- q
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
. A9 ?% a+ f/ X+ o# m3 \4 A' d) w N' E9 H
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
( W9 O0 l, U3 p: gto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates6 b2 M: [: k6 {7 J( ~
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
+ g _- u# P3 J: ureduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important7 G/ M+ K, U* S \. Z" e% `4 y
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the; {( T+ h! N! m
importance of composting and recycling.
% S. z# v% e2 X6 x2 X- L, |& }& x8 K& Z
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
' }1 L% s; D4 Z+ S) N) BReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;) a, G e+ e% w T& ]5 ]: w9 d
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
7 J. H% y8 i e- `' I1 V/ \6 fmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at! L: A8 E5 v8 T, [) J v/ d, b/ y
various demonstration gardens and general public and school9 T6 b n# W6 a) T: J" }3 X/ h
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
