Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
+ V" K9 V f" LMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule: F8 I1 d, \0 P. W; x1 l1 M* W" c
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
( V" L9 I8 U+ A, denvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
' C/ j o0 p; V. q- |management; home composting; household hazardous waste;9 [* r1 l- G* s) {1 c- j
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
" Q' b" l" f: T; [
+ E1 Z7 P( r) x6 v, d+ Q9 mThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips, [. C4 d4 B6 c
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates( |$ w8 _/ a: Q, w
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:. N# [: e" W" [
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important# d K% y# i7 l# W6 z* F
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the5 H L0 w" {: T( x
importance of composting and recycling.: c% O! r' U+ |
* v" n" @4 r E! B( l+ o
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the1 d; P" ?7 M3 n& p R* M
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
- e3 f3 w/ Z2 F; N! K }7 P+ Fpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
: c _; X/ Q! ^4 k" m/ O5 Y4 omaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at/ h) ^8 U8 p: I/ r8 T6 z1 ^5 G
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
% D+ x5 c$ H+ H/ zpresentations.: B4 }/ U* S+ c1 B/ l

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
) g2 F M2 O3 Rvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the* z- L5 ^- Q0 _' j
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your' W0 m/ I5 O( u$ E
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
) Q, K$ a( J4 d9 [4 vComposter-Recycler Volunteer!4 |7 }: S5 A+ [* V

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings, p, W) s' o9 i1 s9 H' ^2 M. E4 D
-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
