Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

2 s2 ~' M% E! I/ Z$ u6 qDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the3 ]1 k4 [9 V( B( r4 _5 k7 p
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
+ L4 {( W! F7 X# z(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about. b. n; ~0 E& |; L e9 ^
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
: v) m2 V! P- [, Xmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;$ B. @" f: K% F V
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
) M$ U/ p5 u0 O4 r; @ X
% G* x) ^- X4 }, x8 N6 oThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
, \, k' b5 ]5 P4 K0 z0 i) g6 U3 Dto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates- n/ a) k2 ?7 D% n7 Y
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
% Y- r- Y# b4 ~9 U+ ~reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important) d9 K5 r# V6 q* c' Y
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
! k- B0 F+ Y. v ^9 M3 y& f7 Rimportance of composting and recycling./ j4 j/ F- ?9 k" x# p& q
# {& M; f' I1 K! dExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
) O8 r, e1 ~- D' Q3 u; ^% ~7 EReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;5 G+ [; |. e* m& `
public education display booths; assisting with programs and/ r; [: S, k$ g9 E: g- C. d8 \
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at" y1 i- g9 X$ T7 @) \
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
- h2 x: L5 p+ k g9 a/ b* lpresentations.. v5 L5 |3 G& c* T0 ~9 @6 z

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and- d, v6 m3 S0 r/ A
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
