The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

) h W0 z' z3 v5 j4 A& T1 kResponsibilities include:
& F" m4 a f1 `4 ^ 2 y2 P1 f- I o& j
1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
& w% V& ?1 ~; ?+ B, g: D2 R8 G0 B$ M• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
1 [# |. E3 X5 J4 V0 `+ b• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
. k. O9 G- J i7 r• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
7 C) g t. M, @$ h* C' |• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
6 \) D9 a: M' V1 o9 k• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.) i$ s2 V" d& @# j9 R( K- z1 w4 [

4 a# i' U, t) ?: l' C2 i/ P, `# d m• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s % n" O& T4 s- ?9 A, e
/ L# ^- Y5 R D# fCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. 2 o8 h9 A- a: ~/ f+ |) Z
