+ l/ m& t) e) P3 G& \: \7 iThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

3 H; [; F6 \  `% j, oResponsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
7 `. s# n7 |$ `1 I4 K0 T" Z• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

+ Q% q$ M+ K9 i1 X2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
, H& X0 B( Q. \# @# `• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

9 |* x0 F. ?: O* rCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
