2 I+ k; n- K' N- U" C+ mEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

% v$ y' Q3 n1 N  C* r8 ^( g•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
5 |5 f4 ^4 w; [- g5 K•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  C9 {5 Y3 p" \. j•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
# N, m, Z: U8 M1 _/ O$ k•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
) F  c+ U0 j4 Y6 X) f! K1 R2 [5 F  ?, Eshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
/ }* @7 q' l2 n/ l•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
( _1 V# d: w- h" V•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

7 ]9 C3 B: l' w6 |Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
( P2 P9 M( ]1 Z9 b7 Q% ^0 T* B1 v. v1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
& b4 p" W" t: m+ [0 RThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
