  K8 p$ O: V9 w2 SEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

1 ^7 H) N8 ^' mFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
' i4 z4 r+ Q( @  ~3 e•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
9 ~" Z; e. q4 K. T9 y( Zand traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

. s' l! C3 B- Q" [! L•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
$ Z9 N; [! J9 p# F•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
* k% [6 Y7 A# c# R6 C' s•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
3 h6 L+ C* n8 A+ J; oshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
% j3 C) \5 j% O6 T1 N6 Z  d, u: d2 m1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
/ g) |; p. j2 s* j1 e. t3 wThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

# g+ W) q) _# QSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
# ?5 E5 e" [. R2 [Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
+ ?4 [& T# P! p2 M6 z  z( xThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
