Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.3 X' @/ t$ M) `( p

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.

• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.
' H ` \" t* |* U1 L• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
: n) g4 `2 T4 v/ p& Z5 N• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ G. s5 n8 S6 B• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 8 H9 f5 x! F# ^4 n0 z2 L5 q% a3 }+ p
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger - n: x8 h1 I3 s1 J2 \

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).- j4 N+ U7 W J- U6 \
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.5 ~/ k- A$ ?( t9 X( Q
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
( Q$ _$ f$ ]- U$ k. t• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
- T9 w! j2 a1 G& @4 C3 p4 V/ a# c1 v! Ashowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
1 e6 t: r- v( y& E3 n• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
5 Y' Y' B! W+ k6 q! R" rvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
