5 M4 o" O# k5 v0 x7 xEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
3 i" v, u1 h9 k7 Q6 f# a4 |( T• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.0 R8 I0 ?8 H |5 [
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* ^) ~! c* w4 |0 `! R/ ?0 |• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.. l }# v6 d6 U0 [; V7 u
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

: P8 a. k( @' Y [8 ~- k; c• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
% d# O1 U2 a' |% `. ]• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.; C6 F$ o$ `" @+ Z3 ^ H% b
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability " H9 w6 v$ R5 z! h$ o; Z/ s
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger / N$ P% o- A' t! F
of the day.
, U8 O* N: j3 l, n. j7 t0 D3 O% n• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
3 _7 I9 y& p4 Q• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.+ C" V o6 v$ Z9 A
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.4 |$ H3 t1 {3 a$ I' E6 e8 A# I
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ; f; B+ [. G; o; O# q4 z
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
5 ~2 a* |' p8 N4 ~' B1 j• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
5 Q2 M- P. q$ v# y; Q( n- \& ^video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly
