Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

& z  g/ u/ i# g7 i& B$ HFUNCTIONS:
( Z  F( h, l+ R8 y•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes./ B( U- B0 S# N; J; T; b1 ^
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
9 {6 z& p  r! u; v4 p$ n•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.$ Z' ]4 U5 A6 t, U
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ' l) _9 y; D; W
and traffic conditions.
2 S& x" b* W2 R* H( f6 p6 `•        Adhere to schedules.
7 s; W. x6 {4 x- U' R•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. ! e2 t' w$ a2 F8 g% u& _3 ?( V* D
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.8 j/ t+ S; K; G4 ]  K; h! Q
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
# D. \9 ~& w! J•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

5 T5 ^- j" r3 Q$ qJOB REQUIREMENTS:
3 \5 y0 e# c  T9 e8 C: _•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
& t% W. C/ e. B•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
* d& c8 m% \0 l/ J& \7 w# f8 B) o3 gto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 7 ~( T) A& G( c9 Z; f
of the day.
2 n5 D5 S" A- ]4 o/ s9 l$ L•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
; u* @" h- s- i( M•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
  B: t( g1 [* r/ O# f•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
9 o0 ^, i  g# B4 \4 s( b•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) 2 |7 q% e( C: l/ A# V  `+ X# f7 v1 y
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
8 e) b. G6 ~, B) Y: s9 F•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill & E3 m* U+ c5 S' L
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
! E6 ~; K, @- T% g& H•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
9 e9 E- R- m$ ~% `" p1 K9 _# H•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.$ P, m. i7 ?3 h0 g9 f

! R+ C) w( ~0 W# }HOURS OF WORK:
. v% i1 h) K( K+ E! Q: t3 X6 {7 MVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 5 C0 h& W3 B' M" l" f
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
* y' `7 C1 H. tThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly3 x- `1 E- X, l$ N! C% b, A0 _7 x

2 _* W, z+ J4 j! _* T- V" L; r3 Y& ?. d- HSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004

Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly0 b, c/ C) X" `" w
