/ H" M& C3 W' p) j3 [4 EEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
/ M: v" A+ b2 T+ e. B' O6 u, s•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
2 w& W6 ]" Z: k, u/ E: J& F! @% k  L•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
- z7 h) \- O8 ]# B7 `•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
+ R8 H' D. J  B2 }8 O0 l•        Adhere to schedules.
" m1 j* ^/ R6 E$ Q•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
7 T, B  A1 ]8 U•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
# B9 b8 J. P# O5 a3 L  E•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
/ V; k# e' T  ]4 h•        Provide excellent customer service.

3 |+ _5 q- `' a•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
6 |7 E/ ^2 @# u1 c; \•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
# E$ _, e; T( `% yto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
" p& G% }6 `  I# ]•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
/ A/ O( z$ \/ f4 B  l* L9 U•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
3 _! A; \, ^$ O3 m- K( x% P2 }•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

0 H& D2 I6 y/ WSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
