6 s7 \" Q3 _' ^" NEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

2 n: S2 [% i- ~: r2 ]3 e8 tFUNCTIONS:
# J+ |4 s0 S3 O5 h# b•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
" o& O( v# B& ~& M# b; K# {•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
5 \3 M# j: K6 i2 b/ T•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
; W, f) h" \! S•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
$ S+ |& u/ `' e# r9 C" o•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
. @$ y5 K+ `( K% I0 Y% ?4 k/ ?8 E•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
) A2 [3 ~( c9 h* f! @% z: n: t•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
0 v: g0 S! g4 p; Q. e' p•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
! P7 j4 Y8 K# V: I, i: \/ ?  ~•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
* T/ h& v% G' K) w$ oto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
, s1 |0 M, A& {8 J$ N8 R: L•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
! _" g$ O5 G! T: [2 s: S•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
/ R$ y% W# k! n2 U  F•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
7 D9 Q3 H/ D4 r: _8 F, \4 g•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
. C& p$ {4 [# O. P•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
; O( h" p1 \4 d) j% @1 ^Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
2 d. K7 P0 J0 g9 F2 D1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
1 V8 l3 T  |, O+ ?Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
