Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.

" ?5 V& M( v9 o( x# ^( A; t•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
2 u' a  {, w: E•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

& m- s0 R0 n0 \; C: {& u& F. B* P2 e" }•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

' w4 d8 @% }0 C8 B7 o& EJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
% S! n% y6 x9 p- n' F# I, b6 Ato be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
7 Z5 a6 T' b8 K5 R! L•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
0 D" K) D, H* M: d" ~' |•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
8 K" J1 g+ j( w& X3 c& Q•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

0 \( A* P9 L" ^* lVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
5 v4 F8 {' ]* |1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
* w1 U- ?0 o+ J1 k! p1 C& N" ~& i9 RPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
