JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  . i7 E. D- l, u3 l
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  * O( B$ P* T1 q; }5 z% H( C: v, d$ K
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
" I$ l' c: S1 s3 rCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  9 o1 r& Z7 A' I
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  $ u9 R" v6 J7 a6 b  B4 E% F9 x
year following their appointment.( G" {, U- n2 D

' R; y5 b7 @% y- f0 Z$ d/ ]DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:; h/ M5 C& g5 X4 k; j! W

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20002 B8 c" w8 m5 o/ |% Y) n
: f1 G9 _, B* ~3 g2 x0 s+ a5 z
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.4 e  _/ `& G. h* q. `7 G1 D" }

, |+ y: Q' z& g& c3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
" `- w2 x2 o) @- n9 }- F$ \' D/ }0 I! R# L3 L7 e
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  & {8 j" t2 X* s7 R% f
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  & y- M2 l( {8 Z3 b8 D
across campus, and advertising the poll locations./ ^2 b4 _, O" }+ v$ ~& p5 O, _9 P

" Z1 j& H& f8 l3 `+ g5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
$ n" o7 ]. @- v" i3 V! C7 zreferenda.
! M) N, ~/ Q! u: s; D- d8 @$ z1 L3 M  z+ m" z: _3 c' ~
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  + e8 Q1 `# H; ?' `' R
parties.
; j/ y9 E/ C, P; c" s5 K* ]; W  z6 b/ M& l9 Q
7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
2 R' D" f: L4 zreferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
  e' S! M, z) L3 g/ oBylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
' g5 r; |( [% r# l# J" G( cminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
$ @1 `0 d9 m6 vfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
9 m3 o' W1 K5 R& a/ Dof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance., g9 x& B2 l' @8 B9 n7 D

* W6 V  M( E+ r; M6 ]- ~11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  * e( u2 H' B7 w! g* H% k1 s8 O+ e& `
the course of an election/referendum.+ |4 Z7 Q9 |# \3 y! T. C

2 R$ y) y; |7 v' g" [12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  7 F. a4 U, H4 i' N( \! `. f" l
process is in place.3 Y5 h# y4 [$ e' Q* S! b' z( |

6 b4 L9 m* h/ P13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  . P- h- }/ p5 p3 x8 M
of activities and recommendations." X5 N' L3 m) s# I& T

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  3 u- w/ Y* G* m, Q+ ^- A( G
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

% }* U4 \" x1 b/ XQUALIFICATIONS:1 @5 U% K" Y5 \

/ ~& D/ b9 D: l8 P1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  % `+ z) V9 m& @. d+ e& i7 Z! u
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
& b, t% ~1 \, k% \! k5 fUnion member., Q! n) j! J  z. U6 @" W

/ f, j& V6 a% g4 ?2) Must have some experience in student elections.
: R  n& p8 F: Y3 b: U. N5 _8 \9 Q0 K
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
% g! K' u& K' v9 eany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  : \: L1 ~3 q, P& N' L3 o
with the Students' Union.

: u- a3 t7 \) Q4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
