JOB SUMMARY: The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of

4 |" p: x, r: _2000. The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'

Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20004 O( e3 I7 F3 Z* d8 v; i
7 a+ i$ d0 t7 Y2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000. j' o* H0 E; W7 g. d. y( t
2 B# j8 ^) R, [/ N P9 D+ G0 J: w3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.* Q+ d+ I; x. t7 v9 \" J# P( x
' H8 s- A4 c. L7 p- K+ L4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing
- |; O1 |- n, } r$ `# |+ z' Xadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations / D+ h/ D& V& U* @& C8 |. f! S# s3 p+ g6 z
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ * v' N7 l' V# F& @6 L
referenda.

referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a - C' k5 E) h5 D

of voting. These hours are to be posted in advance.5 c# n6 Y6 r+ P% E/ B) J8 U, R

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during
/ |, D3 F! u+ @6 V/ Sthe course of an election/referendum.* n! l7 r5 \, L3 z
6 y9 k0 I9 Q: z K4 B12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting . y: e) w1 s7 G, S: s; T- Y
process is in place.

6 D5 F% |- x4 p7 ^) b+ h; H& R13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week
% c! L2 I3 P- eof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

7 A, v! Q, q0 V- O/ J5 J' lQUALIFICATIONS:

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course ! G3 H( ^# ~( {' H5 U! \
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'
2 v# N. k: A/ QUnion member.
% o+ w( C% `: d, f7 ~3 R+ L3 y% o- j F9 ~+ L+ @2 L. ]& H
2) Must have some experience in student elections.& A2 Y1 K8 n+ C9 K
; {9 v& `5 A, G
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or + I1 p* M( B R* S$ n* h
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position
% E7 O9 Q i3 O5 n- I& Awith the Students' Union.# \: P; G- R1 r0 f
9 ^. l' u7 B5 x- c- W+ @/ }4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
