JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
' I6 e  @% q' ^4 }the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  " z$ Z5 e/ {1 ]+ P( {- D& u
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
9 Z' {2 I+ l8 `  v  Z( B7 R& jCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  5 E/ a3 V3 C. j& Y. I
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
" u8 X4 l' Q8 c# fyear following their appointment.

3 R9 A* f; r1 i1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20000 Z  @% T- {3 V: X9 C

2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000." i! a, {3 S/ y$ T( r+ G$ O9 e4 L

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.  B4 b  }3 |% l/ u4 B

1 @: p: ?! o$ g( _4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
: [- N9 o; q, f9 O- Eadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  7 i; C5 M- a+ z- u2 p
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.$ O" P2 X) {  t) Y: L( G2 R

! Z1 m, K& Q& \5 g" I5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
* l5 ]# V0 U' F9 R8 Ereferenda.4 D$ d4 d' W1 E7 d' j( F

! |. b* k" _; W- B3 j- B) H6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
  C# |# t! b, l0 [' s$ u* E" eparties.( `/ ?- Z; f) ~& ]/ I* b" `

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
9 N' G  B& u5 y. a; x1 q2 `; W. Treferendum.

6 A& B. Q% ?+ `* y9 m5 d To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  ( v0 q; d9 l, ?0 X

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  : B6 y  i) U1 a, Z1 |8 }$ A
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  9 N, `/ H4 d! M& i
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
5 Y+ f" p3 [% rof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.) b8 \/ @: w" d' z" _! O

" ?5 Q$ x/ R9 Q11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
7 F; P* O* G3 Uthe course of an election/referendum.
# M8 |1 D1 Z7 L, _" K0 j; S0 B2 P& L0 L/ ~
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
5 M. ?9 K3 `& v& e  Vprocess is in place.* b8 B+ O( I9 m1 P9 b+ A6 u

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  4 c/ P9 |2 Y& O  M1 H: B8 L$ W# L
of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  - @7 C1 v1 g  u' G

# T) c1 j) A. M6 I5 R) X1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
/ |1 g0 a5 ]4 n7 d" I* e5 \  cfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  ; I6 i6 e! U3 C1 k
Union member.
& Z  i( A6 A) d% T) i- L, U3 o& |( [2 y' i
2) Must have some experience in student elections.3 A2 h9 e3 P1 }+ U
0 b' z( D  F+ m# |9 r+ ?( S) ^6 O% ?
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  6 x4 x1 Q, B0 e- {
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  / P: w/ s6 \/ j* c( o5 [
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
