(CBC) - Premier Ed Stelmach is reassuring Calgarians that their concerns and needs will be met - even though the city is not well represented in cabinet.

Earlier this week, the premier faced criticism from some former cabinet members over the makeup of his new inner circle.

' o7 E8 `% M& s: a: T" U2 x, j3 GSome prominent Conservatives charged that women, visible minorities and those living in and around cities have been left out.

' T% ^  ?% v3 |$ {3 S3 yJust four of 18 cabinet ministers are from urban areas - three from Calgary and one from Edmonton.

But speaking to reporters Thursday after a reception with Calgary business and community leaders, Stelmach emphasized that many of the issues important to Calgarians are also important everyone across the province.

Stelmach said his cabinet ministers will look after the needs of everyone in Alberta and not just the residents of their own towns and cities.
- @, g& p7 g" j+ OThe premier said issues like homelessness, labour shortages and education are felt equally across the province.

6 ]/ a8 R! {# f"Calgary and Edmonton and other cities, and all of rural Alberta are all on the same level in terms of trying to find balance with some of the pressures that we all face across the province," he said.

Stelmach said his cabinet members will spend time in every community as well as a fair amount of time in Calgary.

The premier said he also plans to meet with seniors, municipalities and business leaders.
