An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.9 a: }9 E6 }5 Z+ d: m
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
i8 O# }) p" Y# w9 NPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.: d! E4 \4 e* G2 s& a2 R8 M: u
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."8 {$ w. e3 g& ]& c) L9 M
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
