- F; s0 p! w8 @- i- u, `* K* e! yAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.$ X. A% }* @8 w
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.9 A) X& C% t' Z' [1 h
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.3 \& S' L" [: o. y7 K; r
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."9 ?7 R, I5 y' e: g# }0 m& U
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
