6 c( O4 k5 R, c3 [An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
4 e8 E* m" U" B+ s5 qA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.' H0 I$ w$ i/ \' }! a4 }& S& N
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.3 _# l7 O7 I$ P0 s2 N
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."7 G9 ?9 X) d8 F% X4 B
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
