; ~, k4 f2 Z# ~4 R9 D4 BAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
2 A$ ^8 {$ @% NA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
& }5 @7 A  K" [) ^: l( UPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
; ]( U7 a- o, a& L/ Z6 m"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."
/ n) G1 e' Q3 v' N' |* }Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.

Beattie added that roadways can be destroyed by overweight vehicles since they cause cracks and potholes.
The company is due in court on Thursday, December 3.
