An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
; U! P3 X+ n1 ?' k. _A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
8 n& K! l  Z. O5 P) lPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
* \0 C. U4 m5 Y1 f: S& {"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."
$ _. h; `" r' u4 i: ?! zBeattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.

Beattie added that roadways can be destroyed by overweight vehicles since they cause cracks and potholes.
