An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
, o% E# e$ q' W# [A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.- ^9 P7 ?% R1 J; H" Z( m% Y$ V7 K
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.% p7 Q9 q+ o: y" e3 ?
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."$ F. q/ J. R% i: f& H
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
