An Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.
' p* v/ a4 {. K; }. PA police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
/ M2 z# }# y( OPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
8 B0 l5 K: A6 D( T# G"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."( A' O- X L- Q) I
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.( C/ l" e4 U0 ^2 W# R* t: p
"The last thing I'm sure you, and any of us want, is to be in front of a vehicle that is basically 17 tonnes over what it's allowed to be on the road when you stop at a red light."* o! H1 V6 E( j# f J

The company is due in court on Thursday, December 3.
