A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.5 M! _, Q" \' X1 m/ Q+ }5 O* v
Police say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.
4 ?( }" W/ J* P"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."4 ^& @) D" h# v. C- }
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.6 E2 y% r* @" y/ _- r
"The last thing I'm sure you, and any of us want, is to be in front of a vehicle that is basically 17 tonnes over what it's allowed to be on the road when you stop at a red light."
