I am Elena Nicoladis, a researcher at the University of Alberta. With graduate student Poliana Barbosa, I
9 O. \& p( G6 ~8 s- c1 ^3 h8 h6 `am conducting a study titled, “Language, Self-Recognition and Attachment Development: Possible pathways”,
9 R' I3 r7 Z6 p* b$ M4 Qconcerning babies between 6- and 18- months of age. The purpose of the study is to understand how language and

will acquire language earlier and faster.# {0 A9 i+ a( x7 ~

In order to find out, we will videotape you and your baby during a free play situation for approximately: J" U2 K3 n9 k5 O% p

videotaping even after we have arrived, we will do so immediately. We can either reschedule for another day or

may say no at any time. In the video we will look for cues your baby might use in order to learn words. If your S. ]7 {1 O3 R; w/ D! a4 ]
baby starts speaking before 12 months, we will note down the words used.
