Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall: C3 k* Q4 W6 w2 W4 A$ W S* }
not do any of the following:
- y; [) a) a- t. w6 n- E8 K(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor8 f ]! d: U1 D4 K: n. z
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;6 D$ j, f0 t% K* R" d) P
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
1 q% i* a" r8 _. U: w1 uvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 U9 G- [! r% _. B- V(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle," W; f0 u7 @2 c& L+ F6 D$ P
permit another person
2 U) X! ^% W& C! Q! e(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
; s; U& O8 j5 N6 y(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,) T" j9 f5 |- d- x
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;$ J" ]: b: C; t u4 u4 f- y, s
(d) give or lend a financial7 G; T8 |6 B4 O$ V8 z* W
responsibility card or a copy of it
% A8 q* Z. M. y: j6 Mto a person not entitled to have that financial. y. J8 h$ S: ? _

8 e. N2 F0 m" Q) fIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway

% b# P% A# z5 q) \7 J) Z' ^(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a* p. l2 i5 m' ~5 W
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the2 M+ t2 }- U# u0 V
Insurance Act
/ T* {* D m5 j# W7 @by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy9 T, N( I* O- v/ s
outside Alberta.$ T4 z$ F) ]/ u$ i' O# ~ C

, a/ B" O' m/ |) z0 j4 ZA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection4 S# R( R# g! |: M. M
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
% U3 F, ^2 B# j I(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25003 u6 A7 M$ X$ m4 N: f
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to8 B! m2 V+ A b! G
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
+ f2 J5 ~% n1 Dmore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
