- c+ p3 x4 Z0 u I$ t- M- vExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
/ J* ~' d' Z; y5 P q9 Rnot do any of the following:. @% j1 B, J. ~) T* d4 I5 V
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor; n8 x" h# c Z% B9 V+ M3 ~
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;& z. k; J( y. o* E
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor/ C: w- w9 x0 r0 H' Q
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
5 w0 ~. o3 d' q2 K/ ?% f(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
9 ?" }" L$ V5 \/ Q; @ O* j6 Apermit another person" p% L2 h6 {+ s K& _. d
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
3 R! Y0 z i9 |) z# ~(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
8 ~/ X9 T2 Y% A7 Dunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;$ u& u3 r0 X$ J7 J4 b7 f9 f
(d) give or lend a financial3 R1 \6 @3 `- x( E U2 {2 Y
responsibility card or a copy of it
) y; v @# k- p, [1 l: |to a person not entitled to have that financial
7 i% U, D: Q2 q2 Oresponsibility card or copy./ W; ], v0 ?# y v/ Q9 \# c+ X
(1.1)$ x& A' ~2 u6 g, ~- Y+ b0 h
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
7 z" Z3 K) c/ |& u- C+ Rwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of3 n6 o8 O0 } L
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection, c: p/ \6 e8 V& P, f
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is3 c x- n% h4 u8 t
not an insured motor vehicle.

! k& F5 q# p. ^6 y/ V0 yIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this# V+ H7 g4 t/ Q. W1 n; V+ K3 @# o, u
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this- ~+ U# P% A! [* A
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a" K1 Z8 I4 _1 O5 F( ?4 d
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the. U0 X) a; C a' u% v' w
Insurance Act; b Q3 d' y2 V: E1 }& v% \
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy1 F1 I' O3 \9 `! s( x8 Q
outside Alberta.0 E, d4 M* S; x8 b D7 R
(4)& Z. h" K& E8 n) K
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
; e$ L# E9 W' J(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,4 j+ W4 A5 J- B5 A+ N9 c- @/ J" u
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
7 c4 q2 n3 F* H. b! ?6 u0 Gand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to( u& s6 E6 h7 @+ U, b
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
6 c5 V5 }- Z# p7 z7 Kmore than 6 months
6 a9 |6 g! L( |+ j' j2 `6 w
8 o& A; N% a$ N" ~" m# sMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
