Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

/ X0 I# i* k- Y5 Cnow inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.37 Y- N/ i, [% v3 L# I
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution6 q+ K5 a* l! p1 C* e% U
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color- A5 o8 R5 [+ S4 k% G
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance( n x- Z3 `4 T$ e. W( L& g5 g
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
3 U/ S- v" m0 s5 O, ~$ Callows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
' F! q0 b! z6 G6 F1 Iwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography1 f/ ~' v6 ^$ E- w- G% r* `
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum8 n) o4 R k) i: X; P* \
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was! V, E: r1 c" g* p% j) f
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and) x( m J3 z$ g# [
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
. Z2 ?" v! |0 Y I9 a4 z. o% k( j# v! Dbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,# a- q+ H5 D) l0 M
thanks to the D800. }) z/ u; d0 v7 |9 @+ Y- |
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,8 X J1 O+ h4 Y; {
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic& z+ L& O# v9 s9 s3 W* R B% n' f% Z8 m
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
3 ^0 M. k9 g0 d& l& ~& S) b, Jthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
, @* E- K5 {# ~8 ~D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
, i& d6 n( @1 r c2 R# Dwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
3 @9 y$ E( c0 [8 U: R: BAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
; }2 R- Y$ L3 O6 ?has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
# j- |: N8 s* e0 u; w8 R jeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
! B+ {" j# L0 q$ dalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
7 `6 N) g) b8 x% A8 Ncameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
# M; J. Z: z. f' |in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
J6 f/ ^" p! a2 J5 mprints and video.
& c: c+ S( U- ^; \5 QTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is2 G& V; t5 B/ P4 o# p; f
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models1 I- v- W" P* w# w+ H
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using" c B2 K( L0 k2 p9 ^
countless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
' V! V# }0 Z4 f _sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
4 B9 `. ?6 c$ e3 v/ llike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of' ^; A: o1 y. ^4 J6 G( L5 n
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I6 V( {- B* I- f6 q6 b+ R$ G
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as9 D" X. F0 _' r. a( z/ w
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse5 h+ {6 x s, ^3 Q# _2 H. b' b
photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add5 H& E# B( _$ l5 u9 q
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
6 S! r! G& z) V' Y- K1 |D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
+ W2 g e& ]' m. `" i) l( K7 ^is that now I will think differently about the images I make.0 q& ~6 S% T7 p7 ?
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,$ C& |& o/ \$ W! C1 Y

architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
& N$ B& `7 ^0 y( x. pperfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
4 ^" N A3 j1 r# B7 B. W- Qclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
