Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
# P$ O+ A4 G. P2 I* f4 pProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
0 o' u7 ^. T0 h( n3 VAssembling and starting engines
Diagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

Good eye-hand coordination
. X' K- Z  D9 dFrequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

Regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations

Welding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
May need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
Visual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
