4 b, c2 B6 s. q5 NRoles and Functions
; y* I, H/ f( Y1 B) o5 aThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the; G0 E U8 T3 [: ]' ^4 d
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
4 D- H7 g8 k- I7 k( Q. c4 p* ioperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has7 H0 d9 Y1 |1 }+ ~3 K
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
8 s" N* M) y g8 F& g9 P2 D/ }5 Loperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular0 R" D5 j/ E2 A/ ~9 n
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
; B# X# ~# L) J- k: nconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
3 Y4 B; E3 L- m" q8 g% o2 femployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
7 i# y* q* |% `. jstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend n' \2 z8 V' m
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.8 m% b+ B L& Z4 M; V2 a$ {# D

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
( T; o3 l7 c" z) `1 O0 k; K1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
6 u- c; j) [* p3 F mofficers of the Coalition
% l7 |2 n, r" f5 l5 J2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural4 A `& y' Q. C( D
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 w" F5 A; j$ q* mand public institutions( i% L4 k2 S. }, x/ l9 C5 H5 N/ u4 n
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ @1 V( }3 C a+ C9 p6 z7 T1 cfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives _3 Q1 D8 s& F5 k1 S% @: t8 Y x
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

Administrative responsibilities:2 j! u- I/ Q. T: M4 d1 M
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its. f. r: c j& d2 @( W8 |
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
# h$ B+ h* ?1 }2 Y* Vdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
( m3 R% d$ P% N1 L! J! L |5 nmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.3 R7 B# g! _7 v. l
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
' f9 _7 E: I% yMulticultural Coalition
% j1 `' E1 t* j; ]1 t: g3 HRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
, L$ e" ~! g3 O; F( BAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to( H3 a8 \; j! j4 F6 k
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating+ f4 k9 v4 S6 G8 G& D
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.5 l( }. [* o/ _+ X& |
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and- Z7 f0 W$ e6 U' r7 Q1 |& W j
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should0 H7 @/ R. j$ T. b" ?! J* S) M( h
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership6 @& I- G# Q6 P# N8 F; [6 t' s/ Q
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
8 m2 c& O O ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
+ C6 n o! S# D% m5 x0 rdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial$ Q. Z6 N4 |8 S9 Y5 n; ~" [
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
0 o7 r, N0 e# Y2 r4 ~3 A8 j/ U3 zmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
