& q5 n( \$ h: y: Q. }: g5 e) I0 uRoles and Functions
2 n+ E1 W1 V, E" sThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
( {* s4 O# f: Q+ Y8 H" ]6 vorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
Q! a) H8 x0 Z- {$ a1 aoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
( S' l% Z3 m$ B' x; t$ v4 j$ ythe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,) B. b: g3 p h
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular: b. R) b! x+ K) Q; q
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is& j b: V6 y- f3 ]& u
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
3 \7 ]6 Q4 h5 k* d) I, e; }" n$ Aemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
9 @7 a9 k+ [3 V4 zstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 r2 F4 B, a! I( c
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.; l3 M7 _5 r8 o7 f0 b2 B5 J

Functions and responsibilities:$ x- I, ?6 A: N. c4 ?
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:5 I* a& H2 {& J2 v$ @: W' _
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the2 E/ @% {( x. Q, F2 K
officers of the Coalition) o6 s% v1 W$ p7 i2 c
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% A6 a V8 d X
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations: f T W/ }# U. [
and public institutions
6 Q1 s0 N* y& o( F$ e# u& W0 r3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
) H$ }! y9 j9 `+ y" r! Pfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ r" [% i9 k/ g$ t. B/ F# F
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
, | ]3 c6 a v7 f* s6 ~organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community$ p$ W, n8 n/ o% S4 \8 r* h0 P/ j
leaders

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically# U- T5 N. w& j

Administrative responsibilities:# H. K6 }( u/ _0 ^' [" ?
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
2 L, f; w L0 u) [( ~" G z, w( fregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of/ }# V# L6 R6 z+ d. W- F z9 E& B
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
0 D' A2 e$ o5 e# {6 q5 Gmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.' Q L( s( p4 @7 L5 k$ Z9 C, b
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the ]% ? Q0 g" Y$ e. E: b! a' l+ \* Q1 y0 z

% W$ t! c* A: P, _+ LRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board4 L7 `5 b8 E7 r9 Q7 q0 I
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to+ h$ F. k3 i1 ?0 B! K) R; }
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating: T( G. b% K5 _5 r0 ]
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
8 S) c+ T* F3 g+ O6 ^The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and7 E( c1 M1 J3 }% V N
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should$ a% Z2 X2 k" Y6 ?
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
0 O7 m6 t0 \1 X2 ]6 U9 V3 g9 w3 Tparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" n& \) U% J, _: W3 C% N4 ]
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
9 ~5 L, A! @) V. }( L5 l6 @directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial2 O" ^/ {9 a7 |' N" c3 u
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
- s+ U" F) c0 ?$ z6 ~# A8 `matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of1 }, o! b8 I5 i$ k" o' W; ~) d
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation7 X4 c" Q$ v9 D

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles3 F- r" [# C5 N& j
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates( x9 H, o, m, F& g$ G: r! }+ z
of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers {, B/ K7 n( R0 ^, J5 s+ k& p9 R
3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding6 a6 m) N! m, x. y* L

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
