Roles and Functions7 w3 ^; R: x9 C: R9 s: [
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the( I! X8 Z+ P# v7 Z" D. h
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
; d9 }1 I+ k, E7 k$ noperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
6 ?- y* _$ G; {1 w& W2 Z9 s5 Y( p- k0 b" dthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,! r- ^7 u( `/ q0 ^' Y/ X- ]! t
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
5 U6 y1 b- H, B9 Q+ B6 S# @% gboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
. ^5 E1 n! A. rconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an) ^+ [8 U$ Q4 o s0 \
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires* {3 J* p3 f- \0 V/ v. A- O
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
3 a2 i7 }. u# R+ \: @0 z6 fall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.! ]% l& F3 ]% r/ w/ q

Functions and responsibilities:8 V$ v" z, s6 g! A
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:% J. p& T9 _( c9 B+ H. q
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the: O: L* x1 K$ R0 u% p
officers of the Coalition
5 d" _2 v! Q$ t( K8 M% n2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; L" }, S) Z. p; z/ p [4 m, r3 y
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations. Z5 r# y3 @7 y* S
and public institutions# x' s& u$ G. y3 H
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ T) B" ~3 v- W0 bfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
+ U+ q0 F! B' N4 a( S4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. i: T# p. p0 X$ t( ]( |2 a+ Eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with! f. i5 X g/ T" q Z2 M

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
5 n5 o; l" O3 O! |participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

+ I& \* ]7 e8 B; Twith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically4 E- I- r K2 I4 S. P4 D7 s
diverse backgrounds8 ]) L. s8 k3 K' b# ] p
4 n2 X0 _$ N, D- g+ `Administrative responsibilities:! A. \$ n$ V! ?8 W( v, {
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its' ]4 i) I* ~( ^* o4 E, x4 t9 o/ S! @1 x
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
# {2 d) q/ d/ `. Sdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
" e# ?8 X! R! wmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
p8 ~5 \+ F7 o( W1 DAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" \# b" `1 g6 \7 v( z: r- Gimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
/ _$ G" J# f9 Z3 f' ^operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.4 F2 d: ?2 z% ~: f3 f& k( J; F
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 ]. k. y0 r$ i9 b( x4 q) l6 Y
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- G# T% u" |& H6 _; z' I
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
6 k# m; t8 L1 c# Y Nparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and0 Z" Q- x5 C( p( A% _/ M- A
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
5 C7 u: S: r5 K+ g: [' pdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial- h. e4 f7 N e( Z& u, Z5 M
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all; r6 A1 \( Z/ u+ w
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* _8 H* a2 |- b8 i( P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of/ E3 A% s3 s( B* Z" p/ Z
policies already adopted

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles1 V9 E# ?1 O7 i
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the( ~2 s' j8 }- y: X* g* [1 }# ]2 \

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power
