• Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN)

Beginning in 1995, ETIP:
5 i0 Y$ r( |$ p• supports foreign-educated engineer and engineering technologists, and

The Alberta economy has a high demand for skilled workers in the

: r. R c& W8 D2 @- S# }+ VAlberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These+ M; N( J( S8 ]) O+ b: x# P# j
immigrants are highly educated and experienced, yet many may find it
) s# k4 I+ n$ I; |- idifficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not! u) g% c. l1 C
recognize their international experience or credentials.

Integrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work
* } s% W8 E ~experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or& k7 }3 d" R7 t& A6 v- k2 f0 r
English as a Second Language.

• Phase II:

• technical English language skills

• job search and job management skills

What is the evidence of success? W; |0 w* p; b% ?. p2 B
As of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have% M: h* h+ w' [( M/ o* h m
found engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.. R8 Y) `6 O4 t5 A5 h5 }( E j
In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of4 A4 W% |3 C6 C9 X6 N5 n/ s t* B
graduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,9 S/ ^9 K: E, Y
with over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.1 p8 J5 y' Y2 [3 o) \2 b6 i
