Beginning in 1995, ETIP:

Alberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These

" A8 I* h( ]7 w5 g7 rdifficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not+ O, I) F# ]. w( w/ G

What is the practice?
6 D, e; ?- d" y$ @% gIntegrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work
4 K" t+ ], i2 t6 N6 H! Iexperience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or

􀂉 450 hours of in-class time

Upon successful completion of ETIP, graduates are Technologist-in-Training# a0 G3 g3 o3 K

and recognition of professional qualifications in the engineering

• EMCN recruits for ETIP and has a strong relationship with the
' W4 [% [9 C; E# BEdmonton immigrant community.

What is the evidence of success?" M9 N v8 { ~" ^5 p+ z6 J
As of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have
* I9 o1 \- u6 B; Pfound engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.
% S& u$ o2 i* ]& U* @In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of! G* U7 E% G! Y" t7 E% {9 M
graduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,. R( `1 {* v5 r6 {
with over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.! H3 n4 o$ y9 X* I/ {6 i: y
What do others say about the practice?
