• Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), and

an engineer or engineering technologist in Alberta:

difficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not2 _0 }8 Q( w( R8 A# v7 N/ Q
recognize their international experience or credentials.

9 c6 }( G0 O, v! q+ x! UIntegrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work) W0 D( a' i. [0 M0 Z
experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or

The training components of ETIP assist participants in developing skills4 j. p! j( r5 W# N$ j& c7 r
required for the Alberta workplace. Training includes:

• engineering-related training delivered at NAIT:
7 r( j3 ]7 E2 j% }) P􀂉 450 hours of in-class time

members of ASET:

and recognition of professional qualifications in the engineering

• The program addresses both the needs of foreign-educated engineer

Each member of the ETIP partnership contributes their expertise in order to

• EMCN recruits for ETIP and has a strong relationship with the

Canadian workforce.

What is the evidence of success?
" s% U F; C' ~- BAs of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have
9 ], W7 l5 P2 G# Ufound engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.+ }9 R+ w% x* w" y- ]
In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of: e _3 \& p+ ?0 p% c1 z( r( c# Y) D
graduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,) I# N: l( e/ D
with over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.7 C6 t8 w/ L! H7 c

ETIP received the 2002 Laurel Award for its innovative programming.
