% q% z" l/ U, T/ D! cWest was involved in a sex scandal in 2005. He was accused of sexually
7 k* l* b3 u# _4 H3 labusing two young boys in the 1970s and 1980s when he was a sheriff's deputy
4 e2 @+ s4 W$ ^$ ?, E- Eand Boy Scout leader. He was also accused of misusing his office as mayor
6 B# B- Z( Y" j6 ~8 |to lure teenage boys for sexual relationships. West called the molestation
/ T* \3 _% ]/ W* d3 W. g) rallegations "flat lies". However he admitted to having private online
  ?& d6 }1 k- N! f8 D; j/ T% |relationships in the past year through the Gay.com website (see ([3]).

West confirmed the accusations of meeting men over the Internet but denied
5 a4 i2 |* o6 C( b% athe charges that he had sought out minors (see[4]). Using the name "Right-
0 D" S" e6 l0 uBiGuy" he allegedly offered internships to young gay men (some of whom were
9 {/ }- T" A+ P! W, m8 @: L. ljust graduating from high school - none of whom, however, under the age of
18.

preacher. Known as Pastor Ted to the congregations he served, he is the
founder and former pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs,
Colorado; a founder of the Association of Life-Giving Churches; and was
leader of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) from 2003[1] until
' \( \' P% P; `1 e3 @6 C' FNovember 2006.

In November 2006, he resigned or was removed from all of his leadership
' [; F  z: E7 ?# F8 O* ipositions after he admitted soliciting prostitute Mike Jones for homosexual
sex and methamphetamine. Initially Haggard denied even knowing Mike Jones,
but as a media investigation proceeded he acknowledged that some allegations
( {1 C. y8 W6 s5 \% U! a% M6 N, such as his purchase of methamphetamine, were true. He later added "sexual
% p/ u/ l/ {3 y4 C- J' nimmorality" to his list of confessions.[2]

0 ]- y4 v- _" A. l. O! qAfter the scandal was publicized, Haggard entered three weeks of intensive
; k! _& o7 S3 m7 G5 X+ Z$ Z& `, S6 Jcounseling, overseen by four ministers. In February 2007, one of those
; @* [; Q& F& S* t# fministers, Tim Ralph, said that Haggard "is completely heterosexual."[3]

embrace his heterosexual side."[4] As of early 2009, Haggard continues to
: n$ h0 G% W, treceive counseling, and now he says that he is a “heterosexual with issues.

On January 23, 2009, officials from Haggard's former church announced that a

reached a six figure settlement with the man, who was in his early 20s at

and this is not about "opening new wounds" it's about a much larger issue.[
