The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
5 h2 t  a3 k9 _4 p; kthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
$ @, s! P0 b8 z3 lthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
8 R' }. c5 |  m- OEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and - i. z' w# H( P4 B/ C
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
* }+ [* d5 ]  G9 I
5 k" G8 S" Z$ k3 VReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
' u5 I$ E8 B4 n# dexecution of the YWCA Strategy , Y8 Z; R" d# G+ R
/ j3 E4 j0 l# ~) b& X
Specific responsibilities include:  
  P- T: r1 S; w& L6 m* t  {' X
! A' \+ K% j4 \; l•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 9 O  y& j, o/ R. y; q* Z4 z" \) {: |
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 3 h! o7 P/ s4 W8 c1 @, q% G
the Board of Directors;  
* ^, ^2 x! ?; s6 ?# {, y, q•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ; S% a, I$ }, z* B; T
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & Q5 |: R( z+ q" j: L
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
& \* r/ K- Q  F! ~1 }•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
) R8 V8 }4 j. Q; H, iobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by % e3 [" V& T) ^( o  v; Z1 m
the board;  
& c" T7 |3 H1 b, r; M  P•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
4 d2 [- R3 R% U9 m•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ( v: b- C& g; N# d& O
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
8 {- i! C/ r: g/ z•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
8 i# j1 r# C  K3 z# Schanging needs of the organization and community;
6 M. C  q% y% Q•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue : _6 C1 H3 R5 t2 p& ]* q
commitments; 9 {. o4 I( I0 X) C: j3 X* J. a) R
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
; i/ P# N7 L; F' c" Z- F•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
4 P: c3 p( F9 L; B0 M- ^selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  & w9 Z: J: ^4 ?& L' y0 v2 o9 r
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; $ |2 u' q# g3 l7 R2 }
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
) _) f* Y. m  F2 veffectively and positively represent the association; : f. W# z" \3 a. B  r

7 i# }' y5 B$ w0 E' H0 p. u•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
* e' ~! A' g8 S5 X1 u  K: o- z( fthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  5 t5 T! d  [0 W9 ?
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal $ I1 t$ h3 e% U; {, S7 o
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ' j% D+ G" m. z0 H
the forthcoming year;  . a* W0 M3 s5 F, X* N
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 9 A; j; ~; g6 h7 a
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ( {$ D. k7 Z7 k1 S1 J3 @
YWCA Canada; and 3 o6 B' {3 g* v4 ~& a
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 0 ^' G/ h9 j" P9 {% Q
Forces.  
, g0 E0 R* ~% D0 a4 x  9 z) e0 C4 q0 \; ?7 c

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
4 I8 M' ], H5 U) K: J1 M•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 4 M+ `9 c- h+ |! h9 o! r, ]9 I8 s* |
around decisions, plans and actions;
0 m, G0 u! s7 F& u0 E•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
/ W9 H- W' D5 R% p9 d* Q+ T9 R7 B•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
* t/ K# {3 O3 x7 X) F# ]+ Rand achievable with realistic timeframes;
; s4 K2 _, }4 x6 C( \•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks $ @- }. T. K6 Y# ?2 H, @5 z' b

Required Professional Designation / Certification
# P* a, I3 o5 S% x* ^5 i( k•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
: k# z% V' ]: D+ a1 [
# @0 i! I$ d' I$ s0 j) JRequired Experience
; q+ p7 V( ?# y! F/ ^5 M$ M•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 3 k- \/ U# Z* R; f
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
$ a* H, D/ k! A" o, A( F/ ~abilities;
, o6 C; K7 Q: V  ~3 R•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 7 c) {9 Q+ d( |; W0 w7 ~9 h
Networking and Fundraising; $ c3 @0 ?. @) ]
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
( X) L$ z$ {! |4 Band financial statements; and
$ @* J) F# m3 F  T•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women # P1 K8 l5 G- D: X- K6 m
centered perspective.
