. `/ ~7 w* P/ t$ U9 N4 v' C: UAS it is well known that the 'wise men' in the Bible came 'from the East,' and as Mr. Touch-and-go Bullet-head came from the East,  Mr. Bullet-head was therefore a wise man; and if further proof of the matter is  needed, here we have it- Mr. B. was an editor. A bad temper was his only weakness; he did not consider  his inablility ever to changer his mind a weakness. It was, his firmly believed, his strong point.2 V" c1 ~: d; C8 Q+ S2 g! H# U
   I have shown that Touch-and-go Bullet-head was a wise man; and the only occasion on which he was not wise was when, leaving the proper home for all wise men, the East, he moved to the city of Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis, or some place of a similar title, out West.

section of the country. In establishing 'The Tea-Pot' he expected to; R6 Z& `" ]! V+ k) U
have the field all to himself. I feel confident he never would have1 K* I5 F8 M2 F/ {- G0 [
dreamed of taking up his residence in Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis& A$ p* T5 y& Y" U! ]: d/ v- w
had he been aware that, in Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis, there lived, I2 ]2 W- D$ j% R. I
a gentleman named John Smith (if I rightly remember), who for many
& P& |+ Q1 r4 d- U" r! Q" Byears had there quietly grown fat in editing and publishing the
( M& m- u* m/ J'Alexander-the-Great-o-nopolis Daily News.' It was solely, therefore, on
+ _# X6 A( Q5 Caccount of having been misinformed, that Mr. Bullet-head found
8 Y$ e6 K$ Z& s6 z; Q* Q: `: Ghimself in Alex-suppose we call it Nopolis, 'for short' -- but, as he
3 e0 r9 `. d- ~& U5 {did find himself there, he determined to keep up his character for7 ~% }6 G6 {8 a
obst -- for firmness, and remain. So remain he did; and he did more;
9 x+ w! `9 K0 g3 Q* b4 xhe unpacked his press, type, etc., etc., rented an office exactly$ t* t( p! n: V& F2 G
opposite to that of the 'Daily News,' and, on the third morning after
- e- d  v+ b: e; T) chis arrival, issued the first number of 'The Alexan' -- that is to
) l* Q1 h6 `& L9 K4 ?7 _say, of 'The Nopolis Tea-Pot' -- as nearly as I can recollect, this
: U8 m3 d% ~0 {was the name of the new paper.

$ t0 Y: U; i, ^& S& L/ fThe leading article, I must admit, was brilliant -- not to say
' m/ A  J9 z8 P! o( A( Isevere. It was especially bitter about things in general -- and as
. B: \% W) h8 M: N2 c- yfor the editor of 'The Daily News,' he was torn all to pieces in% T  y2 u3 V8 [2 c+ M
particular. Some of Bullethead's remarks were really so fiery that I
, x$ g. |# t3 p4 w# {* f. dhave always, since that time, been forced to look upon John Smith,& r- Q( e; P" {- w1 @0 e0 t
who is still alive, in the light of a salamander. I cannot pretend to
( F5 L, J; a% P/ P0 m, q' jgive all the 'Tea-Pot's' paragraphs verbatim, but one of them runs

A philippic at once so caustic and so classical, alighted like a
9 y5 ^2 _! H" g* jbombshell among the hitherto peaceful citizens of Nopolis. Groups of
" Z( s, U; ?6 x3 s8 @; F$ e0 Oexcited individuals gathered at the corners of the streets. Every one
2 e; _$ Y, }. H1 }8 m" P3 Gawaited, with heartfelt anxiety, the reply of the dignified Smith.

'We quote from "The Tea-Pot" of yesterday the subjoined paragraph:

reasoning in a circle, and explains why there is neither beginning

however, he did not seem to be so much incensed at the attack upon
7 T7 G+ n  M1 a/ A! vhis integrity as one might have imagined. It was the sneer at his
: J8 B. A/ A" H  n9 Hstyle that drove him to desperation. What! -- he Touch-and-go
% O( U4 I( L8 oBullet-head! -- not able to write a word without an O in it! He would
2 M0 H. Q: C# _5 msoon let the jackanapes see that he was mistaken. Yes! he would let
1 x8 m( h1 ~! E7 Thim see how much he was mistaken, the puppy! He, Touch-and-go
6 i% t) D* }+ B1 I0 q. g" kBullet-head, of Frogpondium, would let Mr. John Smith perceive that
& _1 J) ~9 H& z+ m: xhe, Bullet-head, could indite, if it so pleased him, a whole, I) p" j/ a( r+ C- R$ n
paragraph -- aye! a whole article -- in which that contemptible vowel
2 p0 R6 P. T, B) V0 ?should not once -- not even once -- make its appearance. But no; --
$ Q, }# p7 V0 u0 W4 {8 \that would be yielding a point to the said John Smith. He,
9 W3 L8 e/ B) q; p0 ~Bullet-head, would make no alteration in his style, to suit the
% V/ Q0 Y! Q' F. E- dcaprices of any Mr. Smith in Christendom. Perish so vile a thought!
% l" ]' E9 d+ Q3 KThe O forever; He would persist in the O. He would be as O-wy as O-wy- Q4 G6 @" A: I9 D- B/ {8 @3 }

to the d-l,' when he (the foreman) assured him (the 'Tea-Pot'!) that

I say, the great Bullet-head sat up until day-break, consuming the

Tired out, of course, by so wonderful a piece of work, the great- ^* W: ~% |4 {* w! h2 R6 Q
Touch-and-go could do nothing more than that night.  He handed his article to
. v' q* U1 J4 d* W& nthe printer's boy who was waiting, and walked slowly home to bed./ y6 U5 R4 i4 r5 d8 O0 V; F- @  }

, Q8 r2 {. F9 l' \The printer's boy to whom the article was trusted ran upstairs  in a great hurry and prepared to set the article in print.

In the first place, of course, -- as the opening word was 'So,' -- he8 U4 J" R* J2 X, J$ T# {
looked for and found a capital S. Pleased with this success, he immediately threw himself upon the box where the little-o box were kept -- but who can
$ t- f( @  W, l$ S; P. xdescribe his feelings of horror when his fingers came out of it without a2 }* E# k; ]- f/ x2 i( P
letter in them? who can tell of his astonishment and anger when he realized that the little box was completely empty?  Not a single
- n4 N: [/ A- q' K0 m2 V  dlittle-o was in the little-o box; and, glancing fearfully at the5 ~5 Z0 s3 i' K" _$ U0 l- J
capital-O box, he found that in exactly the same state--empty.  He ran to his master.

populace was, that some diabolical treason lay concealed in the

residence, for the purpose of riding him on a rail; but that# O4 r+ f9 \+ N: x3 F
gentleman was nowhere to be found. He had vanished, no one could tell* C# S& d: D0 l
how; and not even the ghost of him has ever been seen since.
