Are you at risk?
$ r$ j  M/ E( o8 q8 x. MDiabetes affects over two million Canadians and this number is increasing. The impact of treating diabetes and its related complications affects all Canadian. The Canadian Diabetes Association has identified the Asian population as one of five specific ethno-cultural groups who are at the highest risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The more information you know about the diabetes, the better chance you will to prevent it.

What are the risk factors for diabetes?
9 L; Z& ~' p: ]6 u/ m/ R0 V. L0 d•        Aged 40 or over
•        A member of a high risk group (Aboriginal, Hispanic, Asian, south Asian or African descent)
•        Overweight (especially around the middle)
5 E; B4 z! X" ]9 R  |/ ^" j# S•        Have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes
•        Given birth to a baby that weighed more than 4 kg
2 d* i0 E7 `- v/ T2 l•        Had gestational diabetes
$ S3 ~; o7 f8 \•        Impaired glucose tolerance or impaired fasting glucose

•        High cholesterol
•        Been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, acanthosis nigricans or schizophrenia
