4 e% H: c6 c* `' B9 O& lDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
* ?4 Z5 ?+ Y! c4 T* H r- C7 L5 E: C3 {Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
# L* z- }' a" q4 b& f(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about; z9 o: _7 z+ g: h4 m; z. r# o
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste# W5 X4 @3 n" ~3 l9 w8 O d
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
3 U$ Z) f6 x4 i2 R1 U4 S) j% jvermin-composting and residential recycling.
2 K& }3 }3 ]. ~0 ?4 O- V; Y, B, {4 S( b: B3 U- P# B9 {
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
9 J3 Q+ o8 P8 v% Uto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates K* J4 w5 m3 f" T# ?5 e
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:. P. ]! _) `! B' a
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
. T$ g J: X0 s- eresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
H& W# z) c* m, ]3 Y% Qimportance of composting and recycling.

5 d+ d6 i) Y- @: w6 C* T& m8 v5 C2 dExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the" H1 J c& y1 L6 Q! Q- c3 j
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
7 G9 T- {: x5 P. n( tpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and* o' s. w; X( T6 T
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at) l8 s" s* t8 q" a6 g" ?
various demonstration gardens and general public and school. k- D+ t& K" b. x; |+ W# Z- K% M w# I& V$ j
