Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!% ^9 {0 H& N( J

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
+ B+ |- x# P' z: z/ k5 xMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
9 S$ v p3 F, l" l/ m; B) x(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about2 y, i/ l2 m9 W# r* ?( e& V
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
8 E1 y, V: S2 l/ Qmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;4 Q) P" P* |/ k# O8 J
vermin-composting and residential recycling./ s2 e7 h) N* M5 X6 |% j5 m
) N" W: i! C) a! `
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips. j' \$ ~* I' |# T% q6 ^* n2 u
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates, U4 d& `) \1 B0 ^# T1 [9 X
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
5 u; j( Q: M- G( [ dreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important7 F* i( D5 G3 K* G+ g) d( O! g- b
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
7 F2 v- s* P* y r. K! U' `3 w- cimportance of composting and recycling.* V; p- H' Z' t/ i
/ F) C1 l- o! W: P" e) sExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the6 N6 e o; R4 n5 w, }
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;+ n& s4 O# w2 j: b0 t( \# z
public education display booths; assisting with programs and8 a" C8 o: {' D2 {( H
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at# _9 K3 X/ z) N7 S7 J4 R3 X6 J% G- `
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
/ b7 z6 a3 F3 gpresentations.

2 A* x: r! D' h _( EThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and( r% E3 n, d5 q& P
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
