5 m6 D. Q9 O7 D8 d( \Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the& M( f# f4 ]/ |: [
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule- G7 ^/ n# z0 e1 o9 D0 ^( l# |+ W
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about, N+ i; o& k: x
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
r3 Q0 }3 N6 xmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;: O$ T+ a! K( N6 D; e" n" u
vermin-composting and residential recycling.4 B& m. S& i1 f0 o
, l4 G" Q$ {0 P7 r- }$ Z3 hThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips7 n4 F& q, S! f0 J
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates- `+ F' n$ `1 ~# d- g
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
& n/ Q+ k8 y2 ereduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important' ], X$ \) {6 x
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the1 ~/ {3 c3 u3 c3 A9 c/ D
importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the/ }6 Q" @9 e' S6 F; ^% t
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
+ T, U8 `9 E$ V1 {& O8 O% gpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
5 } N: @$ W( X6 M" G5 Q$ `maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at$ U$ T5 m/ m# n: ^1 u& I7 O6 n
various demonstration gardens and general public and school0 H# Y% Z6 n. V. I: u
presentations.

5 V8 H3 h/ ?: [- a3 S# {. gThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and& O2 j' A3 m/ k+ j8 W9 Z
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
7 k7 S6 J" C6 s# \6 O* Z3 [6 wmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
6 H* V4 C2 ]( }0 Nknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
