Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!7 v; W! H( M9 H6 l
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the4 A! O' T) F; {1 N: n
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
0 D) z: b# E% f: m(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about- l# O% @8 w- C0 E8 f) A8 e
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste& T: p( e8 \0 K# d+ g0 F) L4 h9 A
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
2 q7 C/ N/ T' S9 n+ ~% Xvermin-composting and residential recycling.: A$ ]6 ^% ~$ i3 q/ U/ T
" N9 R2 { @- c
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips) _0 j+ U; e# J: Q2 p: `
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
0 }( Q4 p2 k* ~6 a- q* w9 Fcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
O. W! S4 b% I) Lreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important x8 }. R" x4 `5 W
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the* n* N8 u5 C% ^* R+ B7 J( [
importance of composting and recycling.
0 m' z. Z% B5 z& p/ l: V- m( R4 s4 I; u, B0 K# @$ W
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
/ G/ B% `; P) fReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;3 r0 n8 N- Y. e+ V1 L
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
7 z# o1 O2 m! o" D6 B2 }maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at$ H. O C4 X. Z. g* w( C. r
various demonstration gardens and general public and school- y* |; |( T, k K
presentations./ C" D% s) \! a0 U
+ k: @/ I9 S- h5 s7 a
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
+ o& `/ X# m4 T! D/ Zvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the7 ]. Y4 ~; T; u- W) P
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your7 |, u# J3 k4 P' B m
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master+ g( C) B$ Q: a
Composter-Recycler Volunteer!; h+ t5 G/ l" h0 q) _
) h! U3 |; M: t7 FCourse Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings7 U7 d! Q) g( D9 f* G- c4 u0 h4 V
-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
