There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009. & X7 u* v% m, ?9 s6 k- k$ O

Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:% p( t# t4 e+ R: A- K$ H8 y
! O- O1 c% A |7 b; u4 y 1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.9 W4 L$ F$ A: V
2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
$ R; Q# z; @0 q* o; W6 E 3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.8 X% u5 k+ o7 ]' V
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
