" G# s ~* ]# x9 uEDMONTON - Prices for new homes in Edmonton fell 5.3 per cent in July compared to the same month last year, marking the biggest year-over-year drop in 23 years, said Statistics Canada today.

Calgary saw a 0.3 per cent slide compared to July of last year.

+ f: q+ o" d7 CEven heated Saskatoon posted a slower annual increase of 13.1 per cent, "further confirmation of a trend of deceleration in this city. Many builders reported increased prices as a result of higher material and labour costs," the agency said.0 F. ~2 a7 G( d8 {0 J' p6 J) b
* v/ ^% ~1 l" v6 v- N, r( b% p! nThe fastest pace was in Regina, which saw a year-over-year price increase of 29.6 per cent, down from its record rise of 34 per cent in April.- k! V3 K5 H' I4 J5 @& Z+ I* T& V

As the market continued to cool in Western Canada, prices for new homes rose nationally at a slower pace in July for the sixth consecutive month.

. L, |( l5 S; ?% [( ?- y6 OPrices were up 2.7 per cent in July from a year earlier, down from June's annual pace of 3.5 per cent. On a monthly basis, prices edged up 0.1 per cent between June and July.
