Duties

4 f, ~" ^) }# c- C4 G& h8 A5 m2 D. m    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
6 ~8 K/ T$ i3 J  Q    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
& P+ G  t5 G3 m2 j    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators! v- c8 M' H6 ~" o' R
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations6 M, ^- `8 N1 b5 r' v# e5 q
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
! }1 U! m" D5 e# X    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
, @# W8 P& L5 O0 N    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
' w' D7 z3 C5 {+ I0 I    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program9 ]/ a( {1 y& G9 \/ v
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
/ e: t8 K- a" q. Y1 d    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
; I( M; c4 j+ x6 Z# Y, O- @: y7 ~' B/ a    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
9 u( \! ^% q, |9 d    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly- g# V: T9 Z) F
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities! ~1 i& t' s' [$ q2 y2 z8 V" T% j7 Q
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
1 P, Q0 {$ v, r0 l' T; r    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth$ T4 ~% O  y& Q" t0 c$ e# N( j* F) n
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
: T" p9 a1 I2 T& V6 E: b3 H    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs/ G6 |$ ?; ?- O4 I- h8 z. u3 B
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
9 h) H. a, s, g* U' S' E    * Fundraising skills an asset
& N* e; P! w& Z8 S+ H( J    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills! b4 T% G( U# E' P& U3 Q
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
) A5 K4 O( U- W, I7 ^2 \* F* _    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills' |: s1 b: Y( g$ j! B3 F4 @& n
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
' U) Z% y* x0 Q  R: e& c' M  q* f; g8 [    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset# @/ N+ P2 i$ {1 o4 Z" a. L
