Duties

* P+ q/ d" r& U) v! ^, S" T3 S# }    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
6 T5 q; v3 l* [" l/ V    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group; \7 R/ Y  A2 c3 s% Q/ W
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators# Z/ v% [; U0 x) g' w
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
8 }1 C0 r6 X" l9 r& t; T    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director0 c( d- T/ ~$ U9 Q7 p# u9 R
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses1 M9 k* i' Y7 d' M& `
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
6 i: c2 g/ B( h' y5 U* y  c    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
' n" @/ C0 p1 ^( {    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment3 J+ Q. ]# I  G4 j
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports3 ?7 f2 \' d; L) N+ d5 }
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs& _( w! \- K. Q$ H- X
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly6 N, U8 ]* k7 j' S8 I7 A# u
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities- r# P# |9 C9 k+ _
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools- y; s( d* H- q6 V

( A) L& R9 S* M! gQualifications5 i4 C# R& ^( z) X5 X/ F
3 L0 W3 x' h7 }" ^
    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline7 u) Q: e" w9 K9 l
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
) D6 |4 _' e; m  w8 q( a    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies( q4 q4 e- J8 k1 P% ^
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
4 a4 L. O- d0 t# v. e9 s    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community( x0 G3 I3 h; Q
    * Fundraising skills an asset7 P, u4 M) C4 d+ t
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

& C& q% d( ^& f    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills2 Z' J9 j  x7 y# ?( C% G
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills" [) j& L7 F; c) Q
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset) R* A4 [! W# C4 n# a9 |( T
