Duties

* Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
1 E i# b* D- }" Z0 n * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
7 g; @1 k7 z0 x0 C6 F. T/ n& Y, J+ v D * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
, r2 L% v$ H1 v7 f( I3 ?0 x * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
' Q# {6 ]; ? q/ Q) m * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director7 Q; r1 \/ u- f# F c
* Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
. u6 O! s% G( f# v * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth* Q9 r ~/ f: t0 V
* Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program! v! r4 x. q* v
* Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment% f1 t: Q0 o; N5 O% D2 |
* Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports& f- g6 o$ S* |
* Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs) j6 n, y( H2 J1 `4 B9 v
* Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
u7 r/ p6 H9 o# M * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
* a9 U1 a0 R* s5 P( z * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

4 R) @+ G+ L' w# Z$ ^. X5 y * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
& Y# q& ?: v# P * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
) R" p; m7 v+ g1 F. k, b * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
" }5 @4 a* P5 a+ c- b * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs0 V0 \9 k0 T! G% n
* Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
) g8 B" }& J( d) V9 [ * Fundraising skills an asset
3 K# T( {4 L& {$ A * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
5 V4 |2 U5 f: | * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
5 B/ q) b9 J4 H3 E. V2 \ * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
8 t; {5 i; f2 h, x8 M * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
* o9 [% D8 L) }2 n& i * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
