Duties

) s" B' d' P7 x    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
* r" v4 L7 a7 O; e) v+ _    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
6 G+ `! q9 `) \5 V; m4 i    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
; i. K, J/ G4 T1 s. F  z5 i" p$ m9 s    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment

    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs

2 J5 w9 L4 i) I% J9 m4 i    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
5 g& W& v! I+ O    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

7 N/ L2 E; |. t  W4 x# hQualifications

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
8 E/ h( k+ q- y" r$ \    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community

2 y5 y& u" O  x" X( A1 ~    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
# G% J2 e4 S6 k' i% f7 H" p3 W5 y& h  A5 B    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
