Duties

" a& s. q+ K' ^2 A) N. L/ m7 t/ r * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis6 q+ |% b! J8 K) C
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography7 a3 R1 n% o5 b: d8 y; C1 U0 W
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
% }$ ~8 w( k% _5 i * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client' s+ A% f$ G- c0 F: I# b% L: h$ I
* Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry. q7 B2 U* i5 j* ^" J, i
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals
' j& i5 K, @' k( W1 K$ _ * Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab
5 S ]; @- X. R3 s( `3 ~7 w Z * Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices
5 l4 {/ j, _( ~3 A c9 U* j * Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS): c8 p2 E$ z* N, s8 o" }) L b/ E, A

Qualifications" P: G7 n, O, Q' `2 S) Q6 H) j7 R( x
; B s4 p/ {3 g
* Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
+ {" \/ ]8 P, p4 ~) T; [( g; u * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
8 d+ B* s* U5 D$ I9 _+ p* ` * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel' b' R2 t3 m8 `& r6 d0 a
* A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
