$ _6 F6 D& w  r3 uAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ; g& Q( @) K4 V3 x& L. u
  j1 s; ]8 n+ P/ o- N! K( Z% u
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:+ I( D/ Q; a; f, |  j4 G
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
% k% _1 `1 Q; a, X4 D•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
, v; B, ~" l5 \& A0 m•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module" ]$ V: N5 s# h; n& |* E% R7 X' q
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's8 D+ Z9 ^9 i) v6 Q" U, l* j3 V
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
7 U! R: m: r1 E0 m( |7 l•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset) i* I* `( q1 `# W) r
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
6 h; j  n8 v' t1 P* e1 v: v* G9 v- O•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems5 x( k1 d- {/ b) @8 w0 R4 T
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
" Y0 I! A0 [2 q$ D! q: I  V# y•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies, t# j6 v' b" O- O; g8 j+ E
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST

Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.  o7 q0 K7 ^' ~& |
Salary:  $27.00 hourly
