The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

) Z6 j+ c* d& T' b; W4 nResponsibilities include:

! X- e- t/ T* g1 @6 d1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
9 m! g8 p. i" j- T. T• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
% n: Y; J: ?0 u' {4 n• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
. @( h* x% j: l3 _• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

) Q  Q( O/ x$ F& ]* @$ ]Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

4 V( L4 v+ M4 T& q/ qThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
