The VERTO Project
The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
- F) ]0 N) E$ x: Ybring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
. x  U% j; A& tYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
6 N0 I+ u  R& `) k( W! Q7 ?1 {$ tmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
2 V  Q. ?3 d$ R: mVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
$ F% w: h4 K" D$ ]youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
+ `' f% Y1 U! p, z  jexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
* U6 \. f- `$ l4 Q7 w( w7 Z4 w6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

( U" m" P3 i# L3 K- a4 qextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
" N  b4 H& K2 e/ T2 |" C) L1 ?; h• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
% h) k% ~2 _, f$ ], N7 Hcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
7 h, L- N3 k3 X$ O6 rbeing realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
! O) A# S" A% M) ]! |' F• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
( B+ o9 N  C% S2 L9 D7 scover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
; c1 e/ ~9 q- h& Gexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
. n- X' t0 {! Q, }$ K7 p) s4 Ithe process, and supporting the youth where needed
, ^* g% q3 L$ \# Y' ?• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
) k# N- f' }- y3 {+ R+ R! Z$ d• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
  w" L! D5 F2 h Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
' u/ z9 }: f7 @! M$ E' K Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
to success.
 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
' |- J1 ]$ `. P5 M3 D Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
quickly

: H; l6 H3 e% h  _! _: J Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

) E7 s6 w- H7 }1 m) j Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
