The VERTO Project
. [# [! U7 t7 MThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
. T5 q) e8 y3 q$ Q2 C2 U o/ Dbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based- u2 b5 Q4 L2 `5 r9 m
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
4 p" v" \( {9 b7 n3 Uprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that0 E, p/ M# P6 W O; p8 _8 d1 F
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence. w: l$ A# P: @# a! [
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our5 ^& w5 [% ~$ Y: D; d2 E
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
3 \2 s2 I6 z3 i+ X! a+ Uconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
: W$ ~8 ~( l+ r' Q* u% ~VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills6 x# a& f/ j; T- o$ T, h# q7 n
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
* `/ v- ?+ s4 }$ [" P0 ^youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
$ X+ k- B2 F* [+ C0 j1 fparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
9 R8 ^" ~# I y4 O( _development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
+ U9 k$ `/ M5 A) V6 gexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and# s1 J' q1 s- m' a
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a( A H0 d" z3 K$ z8 V* X! D/ g+ J
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
! k5 d- j8 {% C& b% s2 r ?The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central. ]7 F2 p6 }! n2 a
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.9 V' q3 ~; F3 q7 a$ Q( \ r! |. q
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of: C+ H8 P7 v/ S1 Z8 ]* H' ~& E
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the/ ?$ Z% v1 ?9 }
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are4 k& p0 X+ H: L$ f6 G1 }) w3 I
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
# x+ A& v! ~7 d5 F a" H4 i) x• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as" ^/ i. w: l9 h! M( K4 d7 U' \
being realistic to each youth participant
k" i/ t2 D+ l5 r• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
! A8 k) d9 F- L" syouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
. z1 q$ j7 M, o" ieach participant( a6 D; E, d. c: ]& G
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
8 p$ j; T) m* M! _cover letters and resumes etc.* @ ]9 D& S) O* m: ]4 v/ s
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work# ~- d/ Q2 a4 f0 v8 q3 m
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
' ^# o8 o* A0 M( X; ~placements
3 ?3 ~" }9 m! c p$ K8 K• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
3 Y( ?$ \9 l& e7 D% H8 V s! i5 nthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
/ N2 h( o: ]/ u4 o v; K! o: H8 f• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach5 C6 ]- b+ N+ f0 s
is being fulfilled for each youth

related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project$ Z2 _# }) ^' H' f1 h

Experience Required: Employment Developer
7 z! V! L% U* Y' D G# p Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted% v) K6 W. ]7 M& m
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
