" S' t9 S, E' g; a% Pbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
0 D; E, D9 {4 k$ r$ Wemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
% V/ w/ ^, o2 H2 Y+ i @program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that+ U) v% p8 k6 v. P# |/ `
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.# `* g: i/ c0 {, H% N
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our6 x& v" Z- F3 ^5 a' E0 T
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& V) X' i2 ]0 Bconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the# r2 h/ U* K6 M# O2 u5 g
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills! Q( @# f; G& g# h+ t
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
/ e) U6 Q0 L7 U1 Eyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose+ C1 V0 ]/ |: Z/ X
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
" b& a- b: t+ r4 Z0 a5 ydevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
! l5 s5 B) u/ Eexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and8 L6 v9 L0 _9 ~: i# J4 d4 {
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
+ q. ^ {' S" Z; j) ~1 m% k6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
9 F, a! w1 G9 q) P& c! \& Z. aThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
& o7 u2 Z: \8 N7 @YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.- t/ X9 k; m b! u8 D' A
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
5 l) _3 k* H: P+ p, D( @1 c8 h3 ]• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
4 L, T& _$ l) [- ncommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
0 p" W7 j& ^0 Y+ W' [willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities0 E# }. B+ z3 J8 z- l
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
, M3 O5 F2 |$ gbeing realistic to each youth participant4 _! p; W5 \% |
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
7 x* G3 X2 D) x/ a* Myouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
/ N; \% e& Q/ X: n4 ?% D* `/ weach participant
- D: ?& O2 _8 H0 y• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
8 }1 f4 E* b% M" c8 c4 N" A! scover letters and resumes etc.
" S+ i! R9 a8 c- J. [$ s+ }' n• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
' W O7 e1 h; C+ P6 Texperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
$ \9 n4 q) D& F* w( K- ]5 Splacements G9 I/ O) ?. c) z3 N" P" D
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating" [$ q$ B5 _3 e* F/ W
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
( A$ z$ B: q6 T/ z6 p X( Z9 x3 _• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
& K2 R1 o; R* n9 v7 }1 [/ Ais being fulfilled for each youth
5 S. U, U, y6 j6 [, J' I• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are* k1 ^! f/ A6 m: I9 j
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project `: B, T. }) J: B

Experience Required: Employment Developer
! d) B# L* i: d8 o I) H Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted3 X9 H5 B0 I0 T2 Q
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.& z t; f( o2 p
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
( p/ K$ u2 s9 K4 n2 K% \9 y4 f; Z Uto success.
9 F7 q" t" C! Z; w4 N0 ? Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.% f% o+ N/ z- y/ s
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and# a: A" z4 M% @1 `% O
time management.
; L2 t4 s2 Y( O' T. C! @# J Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections! z% v6 m8 I. D1 W
quickly# [( U) q; G, g3 D" A7 u
 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth% f" {" n) P! W1 l/ K2 J) V; c5 r
 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
/ |+ d3 j9 ^0 Fat risk as it pertains to employment( H& A* o% q6 L7 p# Z8 _
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment; M& d4 s. `0 O) ^
 Strong leadership and active listening skills
