The VERTO Project
0 a, S. d7 W. X A; @! M: zThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
( p2 j! t* m! l4 k8 ibring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
" V) z: l3 p$ k9 }employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day3 P! O7 ^0 C- n) c
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
7 v2 o1 n9 b$ xstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
4 s) F+ P0 P* h( _. FYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
3 p, q3 O4 T9 ]6 t7 S1 Mmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& w7 x1 K% n8 n: _+ [0 ?9 Econflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the: ]8 }- T3 |- \5 v) I
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
% F% ~8 o9 A- f8 n% V6 D: v# pnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve: z$ i0 a$ F$ ~
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
) `- p9 ?9 x6 Sparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
# u9 M4 B$ i: F% Cdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
( g" I8 K) h$ X% V! _ i$ o! kexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and0 h; [& b9 r. q" }4 A% y
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
# ]/ y' S& e$ C( r2 Z& h6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
0 ?( `1 `3 s1 }! U) b+ BThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
/ i+ C2 I. H9 [* XYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.: _; @: m3 ]8 K+ }9 O, e- ]
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

+ `8 e- D3 Y3 [4 \" |Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
: z+ `, Q) Z" U: i4 @; U! b• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the9 `2 G2 ^: d, ^) j5 ~+ w; K3 z" K2 S
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
% K/ D" d/ g5 D, [& owilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities% c& _3 C& A/ m, B6 W( l7 x7 N- Z4 x
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as/ n5 G8 |% {; y8 m( m
being realistic to each youth participant8 g7 }/ Q+ B8 I4 ~# I# l
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
7 ~/ j# k& b1 M3 _" T) G1 Yyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to/ w. Z2 c3 I5 [2 T3 t1 S1 M0 \
each participant& g" i4 _% G1 q
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
; i) G7 h1 y: t% e& k4 ^9 ]: fcover letters and resumes etc." B, B! B1 y: T. a! O# q( |, l+ `
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
* c8 ]/ T& b2 s; y yexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
d+ @- S! @: _! P: l& Iplacements
* S. f2 E( S- J" n• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
9 t. ?' d" } t& s. Ithe process, and supporting the youth where needed
1 C2 S9 F* L6 v7 A8 g• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
& P4 E) N% U) A4 Mis being fulfilled for each youth; a! N! }1 _! H9 N. t3 C+ N, _
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
) N: O+ |5 Y# _2 d1 F% L3 d1 s3 {related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project- f* O& ?# N' {8 o( L6 s
• Other tasks as they arise within the position, k% ?6 Z8 S6 g+ r" y7 q5 c+ n
Experience Required: Employment Developer
' \6 U& E2 V. ?0 b. ~- y Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted" i* @' _4 W$ U" T7 W" b
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
) v/ ?$ k" X) g, {3 X/ W2 D# e Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed# C, }* Y" ~- U
to success.
