( g# e3 G( S8 t; | o& `bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
; v0 ]& e0 Y2 t& ^5 Cemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
M3 Z9 ?6 n3 _program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that" P. k" r- j: d& r& w" ?7 A5 x
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.$ L4 X* z: a! R; ~
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
# U% c _0 r8 R. |" k8 _. Nmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
2 A; O& ^/ C/ {+ ?5 Lconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the L/ S, A1 g3 P1 |
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills0 x% j& W9 v8 l9 {
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve; z+ W4 Z/ _+ z+ d7 g; L& d# I
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
' f f$ C( X) a! _$ z' f Dparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment3 T# m, A, w- F6 ~. S
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and7 @/ a& U4 D" m8 z0 h" T
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and- o4 ~& H9 C2 ]; x4 o* O
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
% y, l# ] f( z/ E+ ?0 t. P6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
: a; Y- {0 |6 T8 Q8 zThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central7 L8 `* C- I/ B
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.+ u# G. R3 u5 ?- X- l! t2 y9 Z
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)3 V- w/ p; Z& z
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
% _6 c7 z& H1 ~community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
/ j9 }3 i/ f4 iwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
$ l3 B2 @/ T5 v! I• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as7 d" N9 d9 L0 ~# P
being realistic to each youth participant, B- z3 O$ I$ d/ B0 U, F2 K$ K
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the2 {: e1 }& V1 ` ]* z, }. n
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
* |& ?' T5 b" y0 V; e6 K6 I0 Geach participant
) P* b$ A4 r6 Q• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
% r$ H+ k* Q- z& Acover letters and resumes etc.3 @$ C) V1 W( ^' i- k9 K
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
: [. W+ D5 k5 O$ t- ~( }; Eexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the2 Z2 f; T0 }2 b; n! H' U$ {2 h
placements# F4 p( e( T F* L1 B
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating' J. Q9 J* H" B9 [' P# S- x4 p
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
9 q$ o+ p5 @4 q/ F$ h• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach* F [" w* F. k0 x9 u* |0 d3 q
is being fulfilled for each youth
" s' \/ y& I. P• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
! n; `+ L" ~5 g8 S/ grelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project; J# s1 ~. B0 Z, S& b: {
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

) h0 z7 k3 a; U/ C Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
4 f8 n) T& q7 h* u2 i1 q A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth4 c6 S# y9 ^, m. X
at risk as it pertains to employment
