What activities will I do during my road test?

The road test is about 25 to 30 minutes long, including instructions and feedback.

· how to do right and left turns legally and safely

· how to manage controlled and uncontrolled intersections

& }2 T: k4 F4 r5 s( L% dThe road test will run the full time unless the Examiner feels that your safety, or the safety of others, is at risk.+ E+ o0 Z+ T+ b: n
For example, if you do not show good judgment of time and distance when turning left in front of oncoming traffic,/ I& b5 ~+ ^% v
the test may be stopped.

· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.
1 M6 G1 p, K, M# i· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training
* b' N% ?3 S) n3 W3 c g7 @' b+ A9 vand Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road
3 `7 ~9 w# n% ktests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the& S: p, p+ U% u6 \7 {( `6 Q
road test.

% U4 K3 X% p9 Y7 ~: |9 gWhat do I bring for my road test? t: d6 E0 }* t1 |+ F, i
1 ]! ?" F! k1 J5 H" E· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo): Z6 {/ v, Y: V
then you must also provide acceptable photo ID.
" e7 J- I/ O: i8 D5 q· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the
; ]8 W" F/ h9 p. P4 xweather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).
* i, z4 D9 c; i; @· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid- c$ x2 W) W+ }& M
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.
, k( g3 m5 H4 d% W· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.& R. w$ l1 U" Q p9 E
A receipt will be provided when requested.

The Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to
$ k9 D# q9 E& t+ h+ A# b' M. \assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and- Y6 ~5 Z) b; n% X% I- U* b
demonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield
# | x1 c0 n# p' ]' kwipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions

While Driving …

· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity./ \ @! h7 i3 q+ e; F
· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.8 b. G/ J6 Y2 s
You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not9 V3 h6 `) g+ g# ?9 b
stopping at a stop sign).
, i& a- i+ v, H* }: W· The Examiner will not try to trick you.
7 G0 S' G; b. @& ~6 e) I' n· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.

Test Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any; w7 F" b5 d" G3 a% t, u2 j
Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this9 M' l `2 L; c7 V) ?( \ {5 q
service.

What do I do if I do not pass my road test?4 d4 V* r: w; H3 x

not passed. Keep the form and bring it to your next road test. You may not take another road test on the same day.
