Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
; o' m, v# M7 R7 k2 P# t. l$ PBecause a vision softly creeping,
8 N3 `/ p2 n6 X* j/ k+ F7 sLeft its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
* g* X5 S3 F$ E( b, \2 F" x0 l9 W+ @Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
' q  ~: C  ]9 d  F# G( ^That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
+ p: t% k3 d% i! N2 oPeople writing songs that voices never share
And no one deared
Disturb the sound of silence.

And the signs said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
