; V; F/ }! W P. P% n/ zFirst, I share your concerns about the lack of schools in the SW and have been actively advocating for more school spaces in our area as well as for more public infrastructure to support kids and community. (e.g. spaces for daycares, partnerships with community leagues, etc.)

, h/ Z/ P) J" I& `' sSince my election, I have been working proactively with our MLA Matt Jeneroux and City Councillor Bryan Anderson to ensure that infrastructure for the SW is a top priority for each jurisdiction - the school board, the city and the province respectively.

As you know, the provincial government announced last October to fund 9 additional schools for Edmonton Public, 2 of which are in the Southwest. Windermere along with Heritage Valley will be receiving a school. This is in addition to the schools in Mactaggart, Ambleside and Blackmud Creek that were previously announced in 2013.

: G9 d4 S4 Y/ p" NWith respect to the timeline of the Ambleside school. we have received information from Alberta Infrastructure that the school is slated to open in September of 2016 as scheduled. Finally, I appreciate the feedback about the desire for a Mandarin Bilingual Program. The district has been working with the Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Association and our Planning Department to look at the viability of expanding the program. As you know, the district has just added Parkallen school as an additional site for the Chinese bilingual program. Certainly,with the unprecedented infrastructure challenges that the district is facing, accommodating the growth of students in the Southwest will have to be the first consideration before any programs of choice can be added. 4 M8 f8 f! I6 I; r

However, I am a strong proponent of the Chinese bilingual program and would certainly advocate for an additional program in the Southwest, if the demand and space permits. Any programming decisions won't be made until one year before the school is scheduled to open. We will have more time to continue this dialogue.5 A& T4 b6 z" H* S
