: s) f; N, o: M  V% c9 tEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

; m0 B- d* f8 o: ^3 lFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
, G" m# C# {' h7 Z8 D% e•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

. E9 k: h1 i  y•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
9 D# F6 t: N0 Q+ _$ d•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
; W1 d; N! N7 ]* v7 n•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
3 j% @5 \( V5 b•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
& q: U. V( t6 \/ q' U. Yto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

- |6 Q/ ^3 D4 S& J3 M8 p/ a•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
7 U) Q+ ^8 h5 x  |3 A% f•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
  n) C! y1 [8 V, ]showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
; [* k( ^% N- Z1 F+ Q: b0 zVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
" c3 M# }& @" r1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
