Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

, g& F7 g$ C+ n* M9 sFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
/ e- X4 d. j5 W9 S# ?- Q4 B8 f# H•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
1 H' g- {8 @6 v8 J6 t•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

! M; h$ b# \, d6 p0 n•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

. S9 t" x2 d* q6 W8 zJOB REQUIREMENTS:
3 [: H$ ?8 q0 r1 P3 q% a( {•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
( i# d# @% b; \' g2 k% |•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
) y* k$ I& `& `& G6 f  y! oto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
% P5 ~6 M$ Q5 {) c•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
: t1 O5 b$ \" I, P•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.

$ J5 F1 Y4 j$ c8 B$ e; Jvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
) u  q# V' F% l0 h8 c( _•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
3 C5 U. R- k# u/ y/ m3 Y7 @•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
7 A; U: M+ o; y: Z( `  L( k1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
8 S+ ]) h5 Z+ `+ V( Q8 eThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

9 q/ x; j* y4 P# I, e" }5 KSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
