' e, a% A4 |. o& R) p: [9 ]Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

1 c9 ^" [, L1 c- O2 c9 D•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
6 ^% W7 e8 x% d( i1 k! D( q1 ^/ _•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
( ?. e: |- r+ E3 |4 R6 F+ z3 Y•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
) i* R7 ^1 R- P7 t& ?•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

$ Y* R  ?0 Y& _/ ~JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* M; P) ^+ k: I, b) _•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
; S9 W: O5 E8 e* Q9 ^0 gto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

2 l3 d0 |: s; Z$ \; L: c7 F•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
8 N# W! p, I" {3 ^+ X/ I•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
% X( d# {+ ]. G' Q$ Y) p" d8 ?•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
. v' a7 Z1 }6 s) N( u# H3 }0 V•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

+ X' t; Y8 R! C0 `) D1 ?" d" S  KHOURS OF WORK:
1 O( d3 J/ f: H7 b$ X& [$ ^2 C0 HVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
  t+ `# y) ~; v9 E/ s1 k1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

9 ~* M& F# a7 T! C  ~Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
