Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

; i/ a* I2 S1 E& XFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
; s, s: a1 }4 x& p' @•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.
6 P# y4 E8 b/ _! I% @•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- E+ ]' O' w% D* u% q3 r) ~/ C•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
2 j  [3 r" [2 d7 _% M. p•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
2 a0 f+ A. x! a1 uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
) r) C% }8 d; F8 [) J9 i1 `2 P, ^•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
0 H, L4 ?- c% W. ^$ g' b•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

; l  B6 G6 q$ ~! fshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
1 v* k; t! G2 t- N% P•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
% J) J7 d  T7 K0 S% m2 H3 {  }Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004

) V. D: C. Z6 b9 B6 c1 OPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
