Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

6 @+ W& O6 j( b•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
# ^$ U5 h" k4 G5 P9 ?2 `( q) c•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
, F- D. r8 o9 Z0 e2 `•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
1 Z5 `# K) Z! ~  Q! O+ G1 i•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
( v! o% n/ r0 Uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
) r. H: X7 u7 Y. yof the day.
# @7 |3 f- z3 Z7 w8 c4 \5 L•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
) v$ U- U  w+ q•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
+ `) y1 r5 c* S' u, E: }" \•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
3 u7 k" t5 U" m7 e•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

  j. c) {+ E. l: H; F3 hHOURS OF WORK:
4 r8 S3 C5 g: DVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
+ d! b1 Q" K9 l. }2 u) F1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

6 b5 {! g6 m& ^5 u5 {2 r+ wSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
3 p+ p/ @% T% A( ~1 {Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
