! z; _7 ^) g. Y) LJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
! k9 K% }" r) a* F% kthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
+ i# i: S3 E' e8 L* ]4 I* D* P2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
7 R- [/ T; q9 |2 O9 |year following their appointment.

+ k. l: L% H& Z& p  F7 o/ ODUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
& F" k, g: m# {2 y
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

7 }9 o! W' K* A4 }1 |4 `4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
# a$ l9 h8 b) R5 v. O8 }4 Racross campus, and advertising the poll locations.

% ~; e2 @+ Y/ K" i2 ?% l6 W5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
: e& ?9 _3 @6 T& rreferenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
" r6 M" p  M7 R% v) r; w0 H0 Rparties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.
) {9 Q% U% r* K, q, d7 p8 Z' i
0 Y  [7 V3 g! Y5 } To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

8 }0 }+ `: ]7 ^/ E" @4 l$ Z* V10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

7 C/ s: @/ @: E9 H4 R. W7 J11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
process is in place.

8 K% x  O& l% m3 [/ g8 t13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

5 f' N/ ~/ K, |14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
/ b* u6 u* n% ~, S( f3 @) u; F& t' Oof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

4 ^$ c+ k8 q$ q1 c  G0 T1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
" D( }) K/ b- M" o1 yUnion member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
( r3 N  ?1 r, Y) ~, lany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

0 P3 X( t3 _& `1 V5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
