Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

& C/ F1 o  s2 Z3 w$ I* }JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
% U7 A  i% O0 _- Gthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  ! z* Z4 g, e" ?
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
* h% x3 z4 k, h0 ]- {/ LCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  6 n$ @$ u( }6 r+ J0 o8 z
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  0 Y+ \2 W  A( Z5 y# w6 @
year following their appointment.

% \6 Z; j4 R2 |DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

$ P8 R' B* @3 k1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000: s5 M( X0 j- u2 F' B. K
: F+ N4 F* x4 s* x! Y2 W: f
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.- ]( \( U2 E  F
/ a5 u' e$ V, [3 H+ d
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

8 [1 `6 C$ f4 Y. Q' j4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  7 J4 @; K! Y2 |3 z2 R$ y  ^
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  ' C) W% B! k* E1 Y6 W4 M
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.* ]% c; I( _' ^$ S

2 ~  [- l7 M9 j5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
4 W( L) `! Y. e3 Breferenda." t/ t6 M( e/ \* j; p) d& _4 y
+ y# X  ]1 T9 P; Y+ J# g% v- F
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
$ D1 Q8 ?  T" y# R( n+ Cparties.
% p- Y, |. G2 ?( d) S* |/ M
6 c5 t- e0 B% P& ]7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
& a$ Y1 M- R1 E: lreferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  8 k9 a. f+ O) w" a
Bylaw 2000.* I$ R; k( s/ Z* a- Q) y# H1 R
  X% t4 t6 B1 p: N
10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  5 O2 R+ N; Z, b1 [5 {" L8 M; }
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
9 ~* [. w9 Y; a1 w: X1 |from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  + P5 O* [' }; N; g
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

% y0 I; J. G6 P* H6 f8 t7 Y11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  8 {% t$ A9 n+ V- F+ q, U
the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  0 u) ]1 v3 F8 g5 ~+ i. N
process is in place.3 t. N. Z: X- {2 W6 G. l' k; v

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
# ^  b* C/ n% u# m1 I* Tof activities and recommendations.

1 y( P  R) g9 O2 t( Z14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  # j9 n' t  i) D( W+ t5 [
of campaigning.# {2 k) X% ~- S

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:
. w9 A/ G3 B5 c$ e. \4 d$ l  A
' w1 \' ?9 W6 P, Z5 p1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  " v( X3 ]( d( S5 u. I2 k4 @
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
- h; @. n$ T* z3 A9 n5 fUnion member.9 w9 e! Q6 p5 r* `0 ]

% M: |* w1 O$ Y5 c$ ]" P4 Y5 P2) Must have some experience in student elections.
) q3 D2 v8 [4 H; o7 q$ `
: E5 [6 E0 B4 J! q3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
+ }' X4 M9 n/ Q9 j2 }any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
9 [6 e; S: P- q) H, D' [; Q# nwith the Students' Union.# r0 F( ~; m" T' f( u  f; f

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
