Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:. F! `! P# V. K. [
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ M& h. x( c* p% R5 ^% L• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.' u8 D8 h2 B/ j) {( f
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.6 {$ C, f4 y, C. N* d
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities., ]0 C2 O% [/ U. K$ ]
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
2 Y5 \3 m, {* N' p, a• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. & O0 Z; r5 c5 v7 V
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.( ~3 G; }/ U- c. [) a% a
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
- j7 m- Z2 i2 R, I7 } ^1 z. p• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation" z n' W0 H: w* T6 ` O* K9 ?) ?; }
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.) o% L d0 j7 ]
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
( e$ y6 G8 {$ d: c4 d• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.4 c! j0 I; c9 F; J
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities., T- r$ b2 Y9 l8 s( E% P1 u
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.8 Y$ x' ^: b" J- k! Q+ ~

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
! L$ ~8 T# s) u, c& L' i3 n( t5 Y0 U• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.9 W9 z" |0 z" G
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.. S1 L9 m8 G" P T8 w1 B5 y
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
M- v: M7 ^8 v2 x• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.

• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift. W# T3 d- w, G- x$ G
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
1 Y, O* v3 w* U4 v+ P' lSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.% E. C/ n; j3 S9 R4 i
