EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants., j3 n! y9 `' B4 Q/ w$ m

The two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.- ^$ e4 `; S) S" u w
9 U% f/ E% Z- F9 u“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.

9 E4 v9 e5 P2 c/ E4 j: QSouthgate, a 36-year-old mall located south and west of 51st Avenue and 111th Street, now has 130 stores and services. It is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, based in Montreal.
