(1)
: C+ o6 ]; P; o- }# \Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
0 j6 f- q3 P0 D4 qnot do any of the following:
1 m2 q( `/ [3 f1 O$ T- z(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor) a8 q3 o+ A, ]$ ~9 x, x6 m# b
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
- A- x4 X- n1 U5 M7 W2 {, K# K(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
, t9 q7 \& b7 w; `7 W4 J2 M0 d+ Kvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;5 _) p: U( L; v4 ~# T
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,0 B# _$ D6 A, ?: B% Q3 a
permit another person$ [+ C1 G6 H' g* i6 i6 t
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or4 b& W! V& O9 q
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
( w/ k8 H; C, m0 S9 zunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
: E% x+ T; T8 q(d) give or lend a financial
1 p9 S/ m4 V: o5 y2 Mresponsibility card or a copy of it- d6 s& i3 {; G6 o
to a person not entitled to have that financial6 G5 q. \4 _* M% _8 q& }9 o# j# s
responsibility card or copy.( ^; y k# T$ ?2 r! Q$ c! h

) U2 o% G" i8 E+ N! SIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
/ b5 |' t, I: Y9 |) Hwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of8 Q; u" U; c' e* k4 A0 j
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection9 C. T2 ]0 ]/ a! X: `
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is# _0 j0 K4 Z# l+ t/ A
not an insured motor vehicle.& M" J1 l) x1 o5 W" E$ Y4 V* g

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a0 E$ x6 M B" U% K) x( j* O0 J4 ~- c
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
8 ]3 J- Z; }7 J9 W7 e. J' MInsurance Act
3 O: n# f' X$ k4 n- e; H% `by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy' x* _! |" G8 O
outside Alberta.# q, p6 r) c' C7 g, z0 z& i5 Y# m
(4)
' Y! }8 f S0 L7 _% z& XA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection1 I6 F, R5 `# f) h* X
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
. J& R1 V ?5 P$ a* I7 {6 ~( B) T8 F3 L(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
$ X6 m. K* I) V) g& d9 cand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
2 G% w6 s0 R& Q4 M4 Rimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not9 w8 ^+ i5 a7 Y5 k
more than 6 months
