# G$ Y9 Y2 L/ I/ l

9 W  R6 G6 _  n0 O. o        1. I couldn't care less. + {, _% f. @+ X1 l- N

0 W3 @- K0 L4 e! I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: 1 e) o7 H8 E! W7 r
/ z3 u# K) z& o$ Q6 w0 f" l0 p
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
" W) c4 S0 J: n( Q2 E
" H' J- o. K8 p& Y4 [; z  |' X: l6 R 你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) 3 {# F1 e) ^; }7 S  m% n

/ u9 K, t  I5 z& k/ t6 h How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
: J4 `8 c- d; O% g- ~! m  Q/ Q9 u* j$ e$ n
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) ! ?9 x. N+ L. k$ T  G
; c) s% Q1 A. @" m% {
* n) A  u2 Y8 }; m
  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) : Q$ h0 n& U! Z2 F( K( u
! o; p  Z5 _$ T
Yes, you do(care).
: v2 G+ J8 i; i! b. B5 h
1 J) K2 q& r. d  ~1 V7 s 至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
& r/ y  i8 M. L; h1 o' U* l5 E/ ?/ x. u8 t. N; j
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
- T4 A+ l- {: R1 V7 w' g
  \- ?7 i0 ]# ?# J I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) : n2 X2 R2 X/ R. T* t, K3 m

6 [: |# d0 h+ i: L/ V0 E I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
& b% _- `- _$ P3 l( T2 H/ U7 g& H( f8 R* \; y, M
_  n3 {1 U! x8 s
8 F4 G1 p! p! ]1 @% r% L- A- ]
  I couldn't be more wrong. ! ]$ C+ o6 ?( Z$ G0 v0 g/ {( D3 `

I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) . V" G" D9 s1 A3 L2 h

! a# \5 Q5 W$ Y  g) E- ~% o' Y' b- v I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) $ B, @( Q2 t2 n, x# D* I$ ^  K, J4 [

  L* y) m. p' M3 R 2. No bones about it. 5 V* D1 C! h- _; C, E5 g

. D  q+ Z, J( r0 l5 q 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
- E2 x: l! K5 V6 I- w; `$ ^$ Z& `( E  R% k7 |# ~; G
  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) * M: }- O4 Z' d6 g" ?
( i' n! d8 O. [' v9 i5 G
  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) 3 q3 l. e7 u8 T' ^- n( Q

/ b3 n  d. S0 I3 [, z% [/ a7 z2 @( Y When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) ! \5 i9 I% j9 |3 N' S8 ^8 l* s
$ v% M& ]; z/ |! y9 ]
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) ) @' ?/ L  N! \3 T, ]
7 s1 x- s# l: Z" v# z* G
  3. take it on me! ! g, N$ d; F2 P3 L3 G( ^
6 N- I: e6 I' B
意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
. @9 {5 T! f! v+ g9 R
! }8 i7 @; t* u5 D" q. K* | Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (这是来自英国的糖果,尝一个吧!) (one = candy) ) A# @2 }: T! x2 a3 Q
- @" q2 D4 Q2 X* N
The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
3 w! i6 {) ^3 o3 Y
% ]3 \! `9 J5 R Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
% J" v) h+ ^: L' \* J- _
! O# d" z5 f0 B+ c% N$ ]3 T (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 7 t) [, }9 y+ o+ j* B1 |8 ]

; B1 _# k3 u7 t( a6 G* o, h4 Y 4. I am from Missouri.
: N$ k5 {% e1 G. |( U' a0 L2 t& Y4 B
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 + ^  m% Q$ q1 E; B3 h

. k( X5 R: u1 T5 A+ T. L" K
  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. % a1 A6 D( V; w
  S6 x" u! z3 J. ]3 c
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) & O8 q& L+ U- C$ e, I# O0 d

# ]* ^3 q! I+ @ We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. " S' o3 q7 f) A3 h( j; Y" N

. Q9 |& R9 Z. L, k2 H As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
