大棒骨

在North America's best-known spelling bee比赛中，来自加拿大亚省的小选手最终夺魁。

来自爱城东南67公里的Tofield的小选手Finola Hackett??去年加拿大纪录的保持者，在第四轮正确拼写出"cachinnate," "kaddish" 和"bdelloid"后，一举夺冠。

The Scripps National Spelling Bee于周三在华盛顿举行，275名选手中大多数是美国人，加拿大共有14名参赛者，年令在9到14岁。好笑的是，有些年令小的选手可能能拼出正确的字，却不知其意。

有6名加拿大选手坚持到了第4轮比赛。

Finola lives with her parents and two brothers in Tofield, Alberta, a tiny town southeast of Edmonton. “My oldest brother’s name is really hard to spell,” she says, as if bestowing on him the highest honour: “It’s T-a-d-h-g.” She also proudly spells her middle name — M-e-i H-w-a, Chinese for beautiful flower (her mom is Malaysian-Chinese, her dad Irish).

: H+ O6 ^0 R3 ^! g& zEarlier in the day, Jaclyn Chang of Calgary was eliminated for stumbling on "gigerium" after spelling "strabismus" and "sortileger." Leslie Newcombe of Toronto misspelled "dhole" after getting "ersatz" right.
