Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
$ r9 C- N( n: Q7 s U' r4 pwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color8 T- R+ h7 K# k' g9 T* [
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
2 r/ ?' B, K* Q9 }0 Kin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800
+ {& s, \+ B& o9 O+ z O# T0 R3 qallows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
7 w1 u* P+ I+ @: I) vwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
b( d7 W+ M: e( mwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum* @8 K5 m" ~! j1 r
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was
$ m$ N5 e4 x+ twidely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and1 | f' X1 p9 ~$ ^# t* |
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown, _" } S1 ~6 E
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,

When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
3 J2 k& z [$ [7 C/ U4 C) g$ s36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
O2 X/ o7 |" C' E8 arange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces R7 f- d5 n& k8 i8 q3 L
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
/ \6 |$ b+ v7 @6 L- XD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
9 H4 P/ R' g( W' Nwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.3 W# ~4 _& f( P$ B8 f
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
9 u% d9 `8 c3 Q7 H7 ]has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
- e( u. s) V5 W' Aeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while. Y. q5 z# U$ D1 K2 n
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New t$ P5 w# f" R) `# R4 U1 p, F" I
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
3 f$ Y% Q. t6 I; oin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality

" ^& n5 F4 J% V: {# u8 O2 HTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is/ O3 T: K) q8 x3 V8 a
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models9 H( j/ b3 l9 T j1 c
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
* q* m8 P; w. z( h: X/ Gcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first( o' b: D- Q! Y: s- f2 D: A
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
; h4 s8 F1 K& P! v& @like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of/ E, X% k6 ?( d: X
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
/ `3 ~8 T' v" K" E7 z3 gam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as$ Z& Z' [) v' r- i0 H& x# [
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
* l1 L+ l9 z3 jphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add+ H1 O6 u! A& O9 Y
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the& E( e& L# ~( C( p0 N4 X
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
$ w/ ^/ t7 N2 T. m2 W9 bis that now I will think differently about the images I make./ P2 h% d. `* b; ]- E |$ L
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
& u5 ~. s" J! Q5 g+ T8 Y, Ncompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal: o- ]" C3 d# ^+ R3 [( m2 B
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for# T9 [+ [8 ?2 ]
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital
. u m8 x5 ?. h$ Q; h( l# E4 ^camera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till/ n4 y6 t4 }" j. c
now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions
% J% z: [0 H, k! s N6 nand easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior
& _" p2 {0 f8 J! g2 L% gquality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for3 E i: Q! T9 g8 _
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they# H4 T' O: \. [
perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly" d2 ]) {- m1 o3 ?4 |: K
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility g# E# ]' O, ^2 `: }1 c( B# q
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional# {( C7 x9 j( i6 {1 E
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality _8 s h- X* a( w) Y: l
to a new level. What a new companion!
